Your Fourth of July Weekend may include some sparklers and other pyrotechnic amusements 🎆
If it does - make sure to safely handle spent or unused fireworks to prevent accidents or misfires after the show is over!

Any fireworks that are to be disposed of should be:
💦 Thoroughly soaked - in a bucket - for 24 hours or more.
🎁Then wrapped in plastic to prevent it from drying out
🗑️And finally placed into a garbage bag and into the garbage bin to be thrown away.

Please do not place flags no longer fit for display in the trash!
See the information below about how to properly dispose of unserviceable American Flags 🇱🇷

🎆As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, many people are decorating with American flags or replacing flags that are no longer fit for display.

Did you know that throwing an American flag into a trash bin is considered highly disrespectful?

There are many options located here in Madison County to help you dispose of your retired flags easily, respectfully and environmentally friendly.

- Drop-box at local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) or American Legion posts
- Madison County Veterans Agency has a drop-box at Madison County Office Building in Wampsville and at their Mission 1st Community Center in Oneida
- Select hardware stores also have flag depository boxes

Another idea is to check with your local Boy Scout Troop, they often practice flag retirement ceremonies at different times of the year. Please do not just throw out your flag, please make sure to dispose of it respectfully and properly.

Does this weekend include some grilling and chilling? 🍔
🤓Make sure to save your leftovers in reusable containers

And follow these tips to keep your grill in tip top shape to keep cooking:
🧽Clean the grates after each use while they're warm
✔️Check your fuel connections, ignitors (if any), and fuel tanks for any damage or dysfunction
🪣Empty drip pans/grease trays to avoid flare-ups
🔧Do deep cleans on a weekly/monthly basis depending on frequency of grill use and make sure to inspect and replace parts annually/seasonally.
🛡️Protect your beloved grill from the elements to avoid rust and damage

If and when your grill needs to be replaced, it can be brought in as scrap metal, free of charge.
You can exchange your propane tank or get it refilled, but if needs to be retired, it can be brought into any of the transfer stations during their regular operating hours. A punch card is necessary for propane tank disposal.

Let's talk about cows!
🐮These bovine beauties have four-chambered stomachs that allow them to breakdown plants and grains and use the stored energy and nutrients to fuel the cow. But moo-ve over if you think that's all cows can eat!

♻️Cows are some of the best upcyclers around as they can eat food production by-products such as almond hulls, leftover cottonseed, and citrus pulp and because of their ruminant stomachs, they can unlock that stored energy! Approximately 80% of what cows eat cannot easily be digested by humans. About 40% of a cow's total diet can be made up of low-value waste to be upcycled into high-value food products like milk and cheese 🥛🧀

💩Sound like a load of cow manure? It actually leads to manure which can be used as fertilizer or added to anaerobic digester to generate electricity, create natural gas, make compost, or make more bedding. This creates a closed loop system that keeps nutrients within the food system!
