I didn't really know what a "hat bar" was until my wife mentioned it was at one of her favorite stores in town, Sadie Rose Boutique. Lindsey will be hosting her hat bar this week just in time for the fair and Canby Rodeo. You better check it out!

On Wednesday, August 5th, the Canby City Council passed Ordinance 1675 regarding regulations on Electric Assisted Bicycles, Motor Assisted Scooter or E-Scooters, Electric Personal Assistive Mobility Devices, and Vehicles Manufactured for Off-Road Use. This Ordinance went into effect on August 6th.

Congratulations to Interim Chief Gonzalez.

Interim City Administrator Randy Ealy has appointed Captain Jose Gonzalez as Interim Police Chief. Gonzalez will serve as Interim Police Chief on a one-year contract, with the option to extend his service for an additional year.

In 2019, Chief Gonzalez accepted the position as a Lieutenant with the Canby Police Department. Gonzalez was laterally appointed to Captain in 2020, overseeing the Investigations Unit, Code Enforcement and Evidence Unit, task force partnerships, and Internal Affairs.

Gonzalez earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Portland State University in 1994. In 1996, he began his law enforcement career with a position in the Canby Police Department. Jose laterally transferred to the Portland Police Bureau in 1998 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2005. Chief Gonzalez is originally from Caracas, Venezuela.

“It is an honor to serve the Canby community alongside the exceptional men and women of this department,” said Gonzalez. “I started my career in Canby in 1996, and to now have the opportunity to serve as Police Chief is both humbling and rewarding. This community has shaped my career and my life. I am home.”

The Canby Police Department’s mission aims to protect life and property; enhance community safety and improve quality of life by reducing crime and the fear of crime and to perform in such a manner that promotes the public’s trust and confidence, sense of safety and security; while ensuring every member is in compliance with the professional standards established by the Oath of Office, Professional Code of Ethics and Department Policies and Directives.

When I was in 7th grade I moved from MN to SoCal. I was so sad to say good-bye to my friends. My dad pulled me aside and said “We don’t say good-bye. We say see you later.”

Friday afternoon we said see you later to Chief Jorge Tro. He signed off for the last time as Canby’s Chief of Police.

Present in the audience were chiefs from around the region and 3 of our 4 previous Canby PD Chiefs. Chief Tro leaves Canby in good hands with an incredible group of officers and support team. There is a reason Canby has been one of the top 10 safest cities in Oregon for the past 10 years.

We will see you later Jorge. You will always be Chief to me.

Very excited that this park is nearing completion! Our Parks Committee has been doing some great planning and this project is one of many in the pipeline!!

The Canby Mayor and City Council will consider a proposal for the naming of Canby’s newest park, currently referred to as Auburn Farms, on Wednesday, August 5th during their regularly scheduled meeting.

The park is located the intersection of N Locust Street and NE 20th Avenue and includes walking paths, playground equipment, benches, picnic area, half soccer field, basketball court, splash pad, and restrooms per the Park Master Plan.

The City of Canby anticipates an opening date in August 2026, provided the final safety inspection passes. A community grand opening event will be announced shortly. The opening was postponed due to a final safety inspection on playground equipment, a supply chain delay for splash pad installation, and a minor remaining contractual issue regarding the grass for the park.

The City would like to thank its’ volunteer Canby Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for shepherding this new park, as well as the project contractor Konell Construction and park engineer Harper Houf Peterson and Righellis.

Today we celebrate an amazing success story…250 years as a country.
250 years of blood sweat and tears as a country.
250 years of being a Constitutional Republic
250 years of working together, and yes sometimes fighting each other, for the freedoms we have. Freedoms that we sometimes take for granted. That want to be limited.

What the next 250 years look like for the United States of America is hard to say.

We know this - the average lifespan of historical empires has been roughly 250-400 years. Our constitutional republic has bent and never broken. Our constitutional framework, which form our laws, and our rights, stands as the longest-lasting constitutional government under a single written constitution. This means something and speaks volumes to the rest of the world.

We must endure as long as God wills us to do so.

Gob Bless the United States of America on our 250th birthday.
