Update on our process for a new police chief.

The City of Canby has selected Jason Lindland to serve as the next Canby Police Chief, pending completion of a successful background check, which could take up to six weeks.

Current Canby Police Chief Jorge Tro is retiring after 30 years of service (five years as Chief) on July 10th. At that point, Interim City Administrator Randy Ealy has named Canby Police Department Captain Jose Gonzalez as Canby’s interim Police Chief.

Lindland, a Canby area resident, brings 26 years of police experience, strong leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to public safety to the City of Canby. Most recently, he served as the Portland Station Commander for the Oregon State Police.

The recruitment process for a new Police Chief began in April. Candidates participated in interviews with three panels which included members of the Canby community; law enforcement leaders from Canby, Clackamas County, and partner agencies; and the City’s leadership team. In total, 27 panel members participated in the interview process.

On Wednesday, June 10th, the City of Canby held a Community Forum and invited two finalists to participate. The event provided the community with the opportunity to meet the finalists, ask questions, and provide input for the City.

The City of Canby is pleased to welcome Jason Lindland to Canby and are confident that he will be a valuable leader within our community, with a continued emphasis on community policing in Canby.

**Canby Police Department demonstrates a commitment to the philosophy of community policing; which is building strong relationships outside the Police Department with the intent to organize resources for the purpose of having the most positive impact on and with the community. Internally, the Department’s unity is about maximizing uniqueness and channeling that toward the common goals of the police organization.

The weather is getting nicer and the summer will be here before we know it. With the warm weather means river use will increase. Several years ago we started a life jacket program at Community Park. If you have gently used life jackets that you no longer use please consider donating them to the city for use in Community Park.

What an exciting day in Canby! Today was the ribbon cutting and grand opening for the brand new The Canby Center (now To:gether Canby). This is such a treasure to have in Canby. The Canby Center has helped thousands of people and will now help thousands more.

Equipped with larger expandable space, more classrooms, larger food storage with refrigeration and freezer space. Please go by and take a look, and sign up to volunteer!

As mayor, I strongly support Measure 3-636 and encourage our community to vote yes on May 19. Canby has always been a community that values families, education, and investing in our future. This levy is an opportunity for us to support our local schools during a time of significant financial challenges and help prevent reductions that would directly impact students, teachers, and programs.

Measure 3-636 would help preserve teaching positions, maintain manageable class sizes, and protect educational opportunities that are important to students and families across our district. Just as importantly, this is a local investment — Canby dollars staying in Canby to support Canby kids.

I encourage residents to learn more about Measure 3-636 and join me in voting yes for Canby schools.
