In past years, we’ve had bluebirds using the nestbox next to the library, but this year two Carolina Chickadees have built a nest.

“The female builds the nest base with moss and sometimes strips of bark. Then she adds a thick lining of hair and/or plant fibers.” (from: Carolina Chickadee Life History, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology)

When they aren’t sitting on their eggs and guarding their nest, Chuck and Dee enjoy spring caterpillars and other tasty vittles they find in nearby trees.

In the past few weeks, their chickadee chicks have left the nest and a new bluebird couple has moved in. We’ll post more updates as things develop!

Our next Reading MENtor (or MOONtor) is Mr. Moon, the official mascot of the Asheville Tourists Baseball Club!

Mr. Moon will be at the library on Saturday, June 13th from 10:30-11:30 AM.

We will have a fun and exciting story time followed by a meet & greet + photo booth with Mr. Moon.

Reading MENtors is a reading initiative that encourages men from our community to celebrate that reading is for everyone. We’re inviting men with different professions from all over Buncombe County to share the joy of reading with young patrons at Enka-Candler Library.

If you’d like to volunteer to be a MENtor or know someone who would be great at it, let us know!

**A librarian is always with the MENtor during the program.**
