Today, we salute you, Canfield Cardinal Mascot. (Real Mascots of Genius!)
While others spend Friday nights comfortably seated in the stands, you spend them flapping oversized wings, high-fiving hundreds of sticky elementary students, and somehow seeing through your beak.
You've danced in 90-degree heat, stood through snow flurries, posed for 10,000 photos, and survived countless hugs from kindergartners who think you're an actual giant bird.
(Caw-caw, baby!)
You lead cheers, fire up crowds, and make every event just a little more fun … all while wearing a costume that’s seen better days.
So crack open an ice-cold Gatorade and take a bow, noble Cardinal. Because on National Mascot Day, the spotlight belongs to you.

Did you know that Flag Day has its roots in a classroom?
In 1885, schoolteacher Bernard J. Cigrand asked his students to reflect on the meaning of the American flag and organized what is considered the first recognized observance of Flag Day. He spent years advocating for a national day honoring the flag, earning the title "Father of Flag Day."
Today, we celebrate the Stars and Stripes and the freedoms, opportunities, and shared history it represents.

Construction is underway on the new first- and second-grade classroom wall partition project at Hilltop. We caught up with the guys from Valley Acoustics this week while they framed the job.
The installation of permanent walls will enhance student safety while reducing noise and distractions, creating an even better learning environment for our youngest Cardinals. We're excited to see this improvement take shape as we continue investing in spaces that support student success.

As an alumnus, Mr. Maiorana understands the traditions, values, and high expectations that make Canfield special. His passion for education, commitment to student success, and dedication to building strong relationships make him an outstanding choice to lead our high school into the future.
