At our most recent Board meeting, Miguel Chavez of Sisters of Charity Health System led a special presentation on “Leading from Charism: Mission in Action.”
Miguel brought along a sourdough starter that dates back 180 years and used it as a metaphor throughout the presentation: the starter continues to live on, but each time something new is added, it grows and changes while remaining connected to what came before.
The same can be said of the Ursulines. For more than 150 years, the Ursuline Sisters have responded to the needs of their time, and along the way, countless laypeople have joined them in mission. Each person brings unique gifts, talents and experiences that add to the mission while helping its spirit continue to live on.
Thanks, Miguel, for inviting us to reflect on what it means to be part of this ongoing mission and to consider how each of us can continue adding to what the Ursuline Sisters began more than 150 years ago.
