William E. Powley, Jr.
AVOCA – William E. Powley, Jr., 76, of Grant Street, passed away Thursday (Aug. 13, 2026) at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath, NY after a brief illness.
Born, in Cuba, NY of Feb. 10, 1950 he was a son of the late William E. Powley, Sr. and Josephine (Bailey) Powley. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his sister, Peggy Kerr; his first wife, Marilyn Bostic Powley.
A graduate of Hornell High School, Bill received a bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Corning Community College. He was formerly employed by Morrison-Knudsen (M-K) in Hornell, NY and Corning, Inc., mostly recently he was employed as an industrial hygienist with Paradigm.
Bill was a past member of the South Hornell Fire Dept., the Canisteo Fire Dept. and a current member of the Avoca Fire Dept.
He enjoyed spending time gardening, riding his motorcycle and playing with his grandchildren.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 10 years, Connie (Wise) Powley who he married on April 30, 2016; three children, Jennifer (Thomas) Olix, William B. Powley, Heather Powley; three stepchildren, Rachel (Daniel) Conover, Melinda Smith and Eric Tyner; five grandchildren, Jacob and Quintin Olix, Anthony Powley, Jenna (Ben) Cunningham and Owen Powley; one great-grandson, Waylen Powley; seven siblings, Steve (Cathy) Powley, Terry Gordon (Dave Gray), Judy Warner (Rex Rogers), Jerry (Tracy) Powley, Michael (Dana) Powley, Patty (Eugene) Peterson and Mary (Don) Klatte; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. SATURDAY (Aug. 22, 2026) at the Bishop & DeSanto funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., AVOCA where a funeral serviced will take place following calling hours at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Andover, NY.
