Lake Vermillion Recreation Area

Lake Vermillion Recreation Area Lake Vermillion was created by impounding waters from the east fork of the Vermillion River in 1958. The word vermillion means vivid red color.

The river itself was first noted on an 1801 map by a French trapper who called it Otter Stream. Some say the stream got its name from the outcropping of red quartzite along its bank.

Another Adventure 250 winner has been selected at Lake Vermillion - congratulations Kelly!

We'll be at Picnic Shelter 1 tomorrow Saturday, July 25th at 10:30am for a fun activity about native grasses, flowers, and forbs! We'll also be playing in the mud making Seed Bombs as well! They are really fun for the kids to make and also help spread native species.

This is the perfect activity while it's still cool in the morning before you hit the beach - don't miss it!
