Shubael Little Pioneer Village The Shubael Little Pioneer Village was founded in the year 2000 with the dedication of Hinton Cabin. In 2011, a vintage Carpenter Shop was completed.

Three additional cabins have been added - the James Falls Cabin, the Adam Shoemaker Cabin and the Homer Hull Carter Cabin. In addition the outdoor Lamber Rogier 'beehive' oven was rebuilt to working order and the Edgar Carter Blacksmith Shop and Forge was built. Work will continue in 2012 to rebuild the Troy Stone Jail. The Village is named after Shubael Little, a pioneer and first landowner of th

e farm where the villag is located. One of Shubael's two wives is buried at the Village site, along with other Little relatives. Shubael helped found the first school at Rome and the Masonic Lodge in Cannelton and operated a grist mill on Little Deer Creek. The Village hosts two main events each year, the two day Open House, the third weekend in October and the Candle Light Tour, the second Saturday in December. The Village hosts several scouting cookouts and youth groups in the fall. The Shubael Little Pioneer Village is a 501c3 tax-exempt organization with a board of trustees. Board members include LouAnn Backer, Danny Bolin, Robert Cockrum, Gail Corrigan (secretary), Brad Faith, Chris Goffinet, Carolyn Hammack (treasurer), Beverly Minto and Chuck Poehlein (director). Nearly 300 persons are on the mailing list to receive the Village newsletter. Grants were received last year for construction of a new road to the Village from the highway. Additional grants are being saught to construce a gravel parking lot. Long-range plans call for construction of a visitor's center and comfort station. Don’t forget the Candlelight Tour at the Village tonight. It will be a little cold but bundle up and come out and experience Christmas from the past. The cabins will all be warm! Hope to see you there! Starts at 3 CST.

The Candlelight Tour will be held Saturday December 13 from 3 to 8 PM.
Christmas as it was years ago in a setting to match. Re-enactors will be on scene as well as live music, light food and warm drinks from the period.
All the cabins, Millstone School, Country Store and Carpenter Shop will be warmed by fireplaces and old fashioned wood stoves.
Walking trails will be lit with candle lanterns. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own candles or kerosene lanterns. No gasoline lanterns or flashlights are permitted in the Village.
There will be a $5 parking fee at the gate.
The Village is located just north of Rocky Point at 7590 E State Rd 66.

The Village had a wonderful Open House thanks to all of you who attended and our marvelous volunteers. I can't begin to list them but pics of group are on fb. That many people plus others who show up and work hard before, during and after the event reenforce to me what a wonderful community we live in. A huge thank you to all. Candlelight is Dec. 13.

VILLAGE IS OPEN TODAY!

Shubael Little Pioneer Village will be open today. Church service is at 10:00 CST. If there is rain the chruch service will be held in the Millstone School. The raffle drawing will be at 3:00. There will be warm fires in th cabins!
