UPDATE 07:15 am on 8-25-2026

There is now a containment line around this fire and it is being called 100% contained on federal lands. We can expect to see smoke from this fire today as fire crews return to the scene to continue mopping up. Ground and aerial firefighting efforts were aided by the afternoon and early evening moisture in the area yesterday.
We want to thank our state and federal fire partners for executing a well designed fire attack and working hard on this fire.
Chief Roberts.

UPDATE: 3:35 pm.
The fire is still active at this time and has grown to approximately 1 acre. Federal air and ground assets are working the fire. There have been reports of possible drone sightings in the area of the fire, if this is confirmed all aerial firefighting efforts will be immediately stopped. Please stay away from the area and keep drones out of the area.
Chief Roberts.

There is a column of smoke south of the Dawson Ranch subdivision in Canon City. The fire has been scouted and found to be on federal lands. Air and ground firefighting resources are en route. Please do not call 911 to report this smoke.

Good afternoon,

As a lot of Fremont County citizens and visitors are seeing and reporting, there is a lot of smoke in Fremont County and Colorado today from the fires to our west and northwest. A trough of air that is bringing in this heat ahead of a cold front is pushing all the smoke into our area. This smoke will stick around for a few days as weather fronts pass through with thunderstorm and dry lightning storm chance’s with winds in the afternoons .

Please do not call 911 to report the smoke unless you see an active wildland fire with visible flames or a defined smoke column.

Plan and prepare for any health issues you or your family might have and always plan and be prepared for a wildfire incident in your area.

Stay safe and cool Fremont County
