Colorado’s film future is being shaped right now, and Fremont County has every reason to speak up.

The Royal Gorge Film Commission supports continued funding for the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media.

For rural communities like ours, this matters. A strong statewide film office helps Colorado stay competitive, supports production attraction, strengthens workforce development, and helps open doors for regions beyond the Front Range. In Fremont County, that can mean more visibility, more economic activity, more opportunities for local crew and creatives, and more business for the places where productions stay, eat, shop, and work.

We are working hard to build the Royal Gorge Region as a film-ready destination. We believe Fremont County belongs in Colorado’s film future, and that future is stronger when the state continues to invest in the infrastructure and leadership that help this industry grow.

If you believe in local jobs, small business impact, creative opportunity, and a stronger future for film in Colorado, now is the time to reach out to your state senator and representative. Share your story. Make it personal. Let them know why continued support for COFTM matters to you and to communities like ours.

Filmmakers, photographers, and content creators in the Royal Gorge Region: this is important.

The U.S. Forest Service has updated its filming and still photography permitting rules under the EXPLORE Act, making things easier for many small, low-impact shoots on National Forest System lands.

What this means in simple terms:
• Small crews may no longer need a permit
• Some mid-sized crews may qualify for a simplified authorization with no fee
• Larger or higher-impact productions may still require permits and fees

As always, factors like location sensitivity, visitor impact, safety, exclusive use, staging, and production footprint still matter.

If you film on or near federal lands, this is worth reviewing before your next project.
