What an incredibly memorable night at PNC Park! Not only did the Pittsburgh Pirates secure a fantastic 12-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, and celebrate Star Wars Night, but we are bursting with pride after our dedicated Canonsburg EMS crew members were recognized during the "Great Saves" event!
Last night, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Allegheny Health Network (AHN) honored true heroes who made a profound difference in a powerful "Great Save" story. When Bob Miles suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on January 23rd, every second truly mattered. The immediate response began with crucial bystander CPR and a 911 activation, followed by the rapid arrival of the Houston Volunteer Fire Department who provided initial support.
Then, it was the swift and expert actions of our own team – Paramedic Zachary Seery, EMT Bobby Udani, Paramedic Elodie Krawczyk, and EMT Angela Burns – who sprang into action. They skillfully continued resuscitation efforts, performed multiple defibrillations, and initiated Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols, ultimately restoring Bob's pulse.
Their decisive actions were the critical first link in the chain of survival, giving Bob a second chance at life. After their heroic efforts, Bob was rapidly transported, and we also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the LifeFlight crew – Flight Nurse Seth Kunkle, Flight Nurse Brenda Wamsley, and Pilot Nathan Simonson – for seamlessly continuing Bob's life-saving care with rapid and safe aeromedical transport.
We were truly honored to have Zachary, Bobby, Elodie, and Angela recognized on the field alongside Bob and his family. This powerful moment, set against the backdrop of a thrilling Pirates win and Star Wars Night, served as a testament to the incredible impact of their service and the coordinated effort of all involved.
Please join us in giving a huge round of applause to these remarkable individuals! Your unwavering commitment, skill, and dedication exemplify the spirit of a 'Great Save' and make an immeasurable difference in our community every single day. We are so incredibly proud to have them as part of the Canonsburg Ambulance Service family, and thankful for all our partners, including the Houston Volunteer Fire Department, who contribute to these life-saving efforts.
