Memorial Day is a day to pause and reflect on the extraordinary men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. It is a day to honor their courage, their sacrifice, and their families, including the Gold Star families who carry that loss with them every single day. This weekend, we were deeply honored to welcome several of those families to our ceremony, and we are so grateful they shared part of their day with us. ❤️🤍💙
We are so proud of our continued partnership with Steve Toohey and Operation:Flags of Freedom. Year after year, this organization brings so much heart and dedication to this weekend, and we are honored to work alongside them.
Saturday's 13th Annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony was truly special. One moment that touched every heart in the room was Mia Patron, niece of Sergeant Danny Patron, singing the National Anthem.
Thank you to each and every person who gave their time and talent to make Saturday's program so meaningful: Steve Toohey, Eugene Lingenhoel, Mia Patron, Ed Elum, Joe Burdick, Scott Oelslager, Dave Huprich, Brian Gunn, Matt Miller, Tom Nelligan, Matt Kishman, Jesse Baughman, Officers Matt Barker and Bill Watson, David Harrison, Lisa Nelligan, Karla Robinson, Ricky Lee, and the Perry High School ROTC Color Guard.
On Sunday, volunteers came out to Calvary Cemetery to place flags, ensuring that every fallen hero resting there was honored with a flag by their side. It is one of the most moving traditions of the weekend and a beautiful act of remembrance. Thank you to every volunteer who gave their time to make it happen.
Thank you also to Perry Township Police, Stark County, Ohio and Perry township Perry Township Fire Department, Stark County, Ohio for your unwavering support and service, both at the ceremony and escorting our HERO 5K participants safely along the route this morning.
A huge thank you to Perry Project Group for organizing the HERO 5K Run/Walk and bringing even more community spirit to this meaningful day.
We also want to recognize those who worked behind the scenes to make Saturday's ceremony possible. Thank you to Isaac Smurr, Perry High Head Custodian, Perry Local Schools Administration, General Rent-All for the light towers, and Flowers by Pat for the beautiful memorial wreath and roses. And of course, to every Rotary member and community volunteer who showed up and gave their time this weekend, you are the backbone of everything we do. Thank you.
And to our Perry Township, Stark County, Ohio community, thank you for showing up. Whether you attended the Rembrance Ceremony, the Flag Placement Ceremony, participated in or lined the route for the HERO 5K, or simply took a moment this weekend to remember, your presence means everything. This community never fails to show its heart and we are so proud to call Perry Township home. 💙
Freedom is never free. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
