NEW SCAM ALERT!

We’re taking reports on a brand-new scam, so our weekly scam tip is coming out a day early.

Please be cautious if you receive a phone call claiming to be from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.

The latest scam involves postcards we send out to notify individuals who have misdemeanor warrants issued by municipal courts, including:
• Canton Municipal Court
• Massillon Municipal Court
• Alliance Municipal Court

These postcards are legitimate and instruct recipients to resolve the matter in person at our office (Stark County Sheriff’s Office, 4500 Atlantic Boulevard NE, Canton, OH).

Remember: Warrants cannot be paid for or cleared over the phone or online. Coming to our office in person is the only valid method.

Here’s the latest scam:
Scammers are calling residents and spoofing caller ID to make it look like the call is coming from our official number: (330) 430-3800.

And here’s what the scammers are doing:
• They call to ask if you’ve received your warrant postcard
• They tell you to stay on the line so you can “pay for” or “clear” your warrant
• They say they will transfer you to the “financial department of the courts” so you can pay

THIS IS A SCAM!

We will never call you about a warrant.

You cannot pay for or clear a warrant over the phone.

If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Do not stay on the line and never give out personal or financial information.

Please share this information to help protect others from becoming victims.
