Another victory in the ongoing effort to keep radioactive waste out of our community came yesterday, when a Wayne County judge issued a permanent injunction preventing Wayne Disposal from accepting radioactive material. For the joint press release issued by the City of Belleville, Canton Township, the City of Romulus, and Van Buren Township, visit https://vbtmi.gov/_T6_R1279.php

UPDATE AS OF THURSDAY, MAY 28: The construction project slated to begin Monday, June 1 has been delayed to Monday, June 15.

***********

Construction to widen the Geddes Road at Beck Road Intersection will begin on Monday, June 1. During this project the following closures and detours will be in place:

WB Geddes Road traffic will be closed to traffic through the intersection. The posted detour will be to take Canton Center Road north to Cherry Hill Road, head West on Cherry Hill to Denton Road, and take Denton Road south back to Geddes Road.

Beck Road will be closed north of the intersection; SB Beck Road traffic will not be permitted to turn onto Geddes Road. The detour for this also utilizes Cherry Hill, Canton-Center, and Denton Roads.

NB Beck Road traffic south of the intersection will only be able to turn right onto EB Geddes Road.

This traffic configuration will be in place for approximately 1 month, at which point traffic will be switched into Stage 2 configuration while the contractor works on the south side of the intersection. A separate notification will be sent out prior to the change.

The Blue Envelope Program, officially launched by the Canton Police Department in April, is a communication initiative designed to support drivers on the autism spectrum or those with other communication challenges during traffic stops. The program provides individuals with a highly visible blue envelope to store essential documents and outline communication preferences. It also includes helpful tips for both the driver and the officer to promote safe, calm, and respectful interactions. The Canton Police Department presented this initiative at this week’s board meeting.
