Canton Township is warning residents and contractors about a fake billing scam that demands immediate payment through wire transfers. Cybercriminals have been using correspondence that appears credible because it uses specific personal facts pulled directly from the internet and public records. It is imperative that residents and contractors know that Canton NEVER demands payments through wire transfers or accepts payments through gift cards or cryptocurrency.

If you receive one of these letters/emails, DO NOT send any money, click any links, or reply to the sender. Instead, call Canton Township at 734/394-5100 and they will transfer you to the correct department to verify the legitimacy of the letter/email. NEVER use the phone number, website, or email address printed on the suspicious notice itself.
