Residents of Canton and surrounding communities are invited to attend the Zheshkwédokan Nature Area Naming ceremony on Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Lower Rouge Trailhead, located at Michigan Avenue and Morton Tayor Road.
All ages are encouraged to join the Canton Board of Trustees and Elected Officials, as well as Representatives of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, for this special event that officially names the Zheshkwédokan Nature Area. The ceremony will feature a Welcome by Canton Supervisor Anne Maire Graham-Hudak, as well as a brief history of this land and culture of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Native Americans provided by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Representations Outreach Board, an elder prayer, and a dance performance with drum accompaniment.
This 27-acres of undeveloped land, located adjacent to the Lower Rouge Trail, was generously donated by the Marketplace of America to ensure the preservation of this forest and green space, as well as the wildlife habitat.
