We are incredibly proud of FAO Brooke Ice and Cadet Explorer Lieutenant Katella Michael for representing Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and Fire Exploring on the national stage at Scouting America's 2026 National Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas.

Our explorer post was selected to represent Fire Exploring during the week-long conference, which brought together leaders and volunteers from across the country for learning, fellowship, and business sessions. FAO Ice and Cadet Michael served as representatives for Fire Explorers nationwide, showcasing the impact and value of the Exploring program.

"It was such an honor getting to meet so many of the higher-ups and the people who have helped shape and grow this into what it is today," said Katella. "Hearing their stories, experiences, and advice was incredibly inspiring. It was definitely an experience like no other, and one I'll always be grateful for."

As an added bonus, Katella had the opportunity to meet Scouting America' Chief Scout Executive Roger Krone and received a special commemorative patch!

Founded in 2001, Cherokee County Fire Explorer Post 469 helps young men and women ages 14-20 develop skills, knowledge, and experience for future careers in the fire and emergency services profession. Through hands-on training, community service, and participation in emergency response activities, our Explorers are building the next generation of public safety leaders.

Congratulations, Brooke and Katella, on representing our department, our community, and Fire Exploring with professionalism and pride!

We were thrilled to officially present Goshen Valley with a $5,220 check for the funds raised by Team Hoses at this year’s Guns N Hoses 5K! 🏃‍♂️

We’re honored to partner with Cherokee Recreation and Parks and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office - Georgia each year to host this event, bringing our community together while supporting meaningful non-profits. Every step taken, every dollar raised, makes a difference and we couldn’t do it without our amazing participants and supporters. ❤️

Thank you for running, cheering, and giving back with us! 👏

For another fun opportunity to run alongside your local public safety officials, check out the Georgia Police and Fire Games Community 5K happening June 13th at Hobgood Park!

Hello, AC season. Before you cool down, make sure your air conditioner is set up safely. Plug window air conditioners directly into a wall outlet.

Many manufacturers do not allow extension cords. If they are allowed, use the proper type and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. This Memorial Day, we pause to reflect on their courage, devotion, and the freedoms they fought to protect. May their legacy never be forgotten.

Following these simple tips can help ensure that you have a good Memorial Day weekend. Historically, this is one of the riskiest times of the year for boating and water-related activities and many fatalities occur. Remember Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns so .

When someone in our community calls 911, they deserve a response that is organized, decisive, and effective from the moment help arrives. The decisions made by incident commanders during an emergency directly impact lives, property, and the overall outcome of an incident.

For several years, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services has worked diligently to train and certify our incident commanders, strengthening our ability to serve the public during complex emergencies. This week marked an important milestone in that commitment as our new Command Training Center (CTC) at the Cherokee County Fire Training Complex hosted its inaugural Incident Commander certification class.

This new training center will serve as the home for both our initial Incident Commander certification program and our ongoing recertification training, ensuring our leaders continue developing the skills necessary to manage emergencies at the highest level.

The Incident Commander certification process includes:
- 64 hours of initial certification training
- 36 hours of continuing education every three years for recertification

The inaugural class at the new CTC was led by Battalion Chiefs Matt Richter, Clay Cloud, and Nathan Baum, with additional instruction provided by Captains Chris Ginn and Cody Wilson. Their experience and dedication are helping prepare current and future leaders to make critical decisions under pressure and deliver the highest level of service to our community.

This investment is about ensuring the citizens of Cherokee County receive the professional, coordinated emergency response they expect and deserve. Every hour spent training today helps prepare us to better serve our community tomorrow.
