The Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Program presents the next session in our Nurturing Potential learning series. Join Jenna Thompson, Communications Specialist, for an engaging, in-person community workshop on The Use of Social Media in Children and Adolescents.

This informative presentation will explore how social media can impact young people's mental health, safety, and overall well-being. Jenna will discuss common risks associated with online platforms and share practical tips and strategies for parents, caregivers, educators, and community members to help children and adolescents navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

Children are welcome, making this a great opportunity for families to learn together. This FREE workshop is brought to you by the St. Lawrence County Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Program. Cryptosporidiosis, commonly known as Crypto, is caused by a tiny parasite that gives an infected person diarrhea. The parasite lives in the gut and spreads to others through drinking contaminated water, swimming or going into contaminated recreational water sources, eating contaminated food, or contact with infected animals.

Anyone can get cryptosporidiosis. People can decrease the chances of getting and spreading cryptosporidiosis by following these precautions:

✅Wash hands with soap and clean water for at least 20 seconds, especially before preparing or eating food, after using the toilet, after changing diapers, and after handling an animal.
✅Exclude children who are ill with diarrhea from child care settings.
✅Do not swim for at least two weeks after diarrhea stops.
✅Do not swallow water when swimming in recreational water sources.
✅Do not drink untreated water from lakes, rivers, springs, ponds, streams or shallow wells.

Why did the turtle cross the road? 🤔

Well...we're not sure either, but what we do know is that all turtles naturally carry the salmonella bacteria.

Salmonellosis, an infection caused by salmonella, is one of the most common causes of diarrheal illness in New York State.

If you stop to help a turtle cross the road, wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds as soon as possible. Avoid touching you're mouth and eyes or eating food until you've washed your hands thoroughly.

Don't forget to go visit Rocky at the Re*****on Recreational Trail in Canton and consider painting a rock to add to him so he can reach his June goal of 32 feet long. 🤩
