Today we honored the 51 fallen officers with a moment of silence. We recognized Van Zandt County law enformcent officers with lunch. Almost every law enforcement agency in Van Zandt County was able to attend and we were able to feed about 40 officers. Thank you to all the offiers who came out and to everyone at the District Attorney's who made this possible.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. (http://www.nleomf.org/programs/policeweek/)

Join us next week in honoring our Van Zandt County law enforcement officers. Send them a special note or word of encouragement and appreciation for their courageous service.

On Wednesday May 16th at 11:00 a.m., the VZDA's Office will be coordinating a '51 second' period of silence in memory of the 51 officers who have lost their lives from January 2018 - May 9, 2018. During this 51 seconds, our local law enforcement agencies will silence all radio traffic in honor of these 51 men and women.
