***PUBLIC SAFETY ALERT***

The Canton Police Department is investigating a report of a sewing needle partially protruding from a piece of Halloween candy collected during trick-or-treating in the area of Saltz and Sheldon Rd.

Parents are urged to thoroughly inspect all Halloween candy before allowing children to consume it. If you find any object or foreign item inside a piece of candy, please contact the Canton Police Department at 734-394-5400 so officers can collect and investigate it. If you come across any candy that appears tampered with or suspicious, do not eat it and simply discard it.

At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident, but out of an abundance of caution, we want the community to be aware and vigilant.

The Canton Police Department takes all such reports seriously and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.

See the photos below of the candy recovered from last nightโ€™s incident.

This past Friday (10/24/25) the first ever civilian employee day took place, which was developed to provide our support staff with information as to more of the "Why" on how officers train, react and report incidents. This day was put together as a day of education and fun for our non-sworn civilian support staff. During this day discussion was held on the officers' weapons systems, training and all participants had the opportunity to shoot a few different weapons systems. Additionally, Ofc. Zinser and K9 Tino provided a K9 demo. For the afternoon portion participants made a visit to the local prosecutors' officers and the 35th District Court. Overall, the day was a filled with good conversation, knowledge enhancement and fun.

Thank you to Lauren Lollo, Ofc. Jason Singleton, Ofc. Jason Blickensdorf, Ofc. Cale Bell and Ofc. Zinser with Tino for their planning, range safety and participation with this event.

๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips ๐Ÿš“๐Ÿฌ

Halloween is right around the corner, and weโ€™re just as excited as you are for costumes, candy, and spooky fun! We want to make sure everyone has a frightfully good timeโ€ฆand stays safe while doing it. ๐Ÿง›โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ

In collaboration with our friend Michael Myers, Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Light it up! Carry flashlights or glow sticks and make sure costumes are bright or have reflective tape so little ghosts and goblins can be seen.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Stick to the sidewalks or Cross at corners, use crosswalks, and never dart into the street โ€” even if thereโ€™s candy on the other side!

๐Ÿš— Drivers, beware! Slow down in neighborhoods. Trick-or-treaters might be harder to see, especially at dusk.

๐Ÿฌ Check the treats. Make sure candy is factory-wrapped and hasnโ€™t been tampered with before letting the kiddos dig in.

๐ŸŽญ Know your crew. Young children should always be with an adult. Older kids should stick with a group and have a set route.

And of courseโ€ฆif you see something spooky that shouldn't be spooky (suspicious activity, unsafe behavior), give us a call. We're out and about to keep the streets safe for all our witches and wizards. ๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸงŸ
