The Social Media Policy of the Stark County Sheriff's Office

We believe social media can be a powerful way for people to connect, share information, and stay informed. However, it can also be a tool used to amplify misinformation, speculation, harassment, and obscenity, all of which are especially dangerous during serious incidents, active investigations, and matters of public safety when accuracy and trust are essential. For these reasons, we adopted the following social media policy on January 6, 2025:
• We use social media platforms to share official information and updates.
• We maintain a content-neutral policy that disables comments across all posts.
• This approach ensures the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of our communications while avoiding the creation of a public forum.
• Importantly, this policy does not create a legal obligation to host public discourse on these platforms. While comments are disabled on our social media posts, we welcome and encourage members of the public to share feedback, concerns, or suggestions through the following channels:
• Email: [email protected]
• Phone: (330) 430-3800
• Website contact form: https://sheriff.starkcountyohio.gov/government/offices/sheriff/contact_us/index.php
• In person: We’re regularly at community events and would love to meet and talk with you. Thank you for understanding our policy, which is grounded in mutual respect and the seriousness of our duty as a law enforcement agency. By preventing harmful content from interfering with public safety, we ensure our communications remain clear, reliable, and trustworthy. Our commitment is to serve the community with integrity, and we look forward to continuing open, respectful conversations through the many channels available.

Today is National Move Over Day. It’s the time for remembering the simple action we should take every single day to save lives.

Ohio’s Move Over Law requires drivers to move over and slow down for any stationary vehicle with flashing lights, no matter the color. This protects everyone: law enforcement, emergency responders, road construction and maintenance crews, utility workers, and tow operators.

• Move Over: Shift one lane away when it’s safe.
• Slow Down: If a lane change isn’t possible, reduce your speed significantly and proceed with caution.
• Every Road, Every Time: The law applies across all Ohio roadways.

Let’s make today a reminder—and every day a commitment—to keep our roadside workers safe.

Move over. Slow down. Lives depend on it.

Saturday is National Move Over Day. 🚓🚒🛻

First responders, tow operators and highway workers put their lives on the line every day to protect ours. Give them the space they need to go home safe.

When you see flashing lights on the side of the road, remember: Slow Down, Move Over

The big day is just one week away! 🎃 👻

Our free and frightfully fun Trunk or Treat is almost here, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you and your little goblins!

Join us on Wednesday, October 21, as we transform the Stark County Fairgrounds into a fang-tastic haunt, giving families a festive place to trick-or-treat.

Arrive at 4 p.m. to visit the outdoor Halloween Street Fair, where kids can check out:
• Monstrously cool big vehicles, including a fire truck from Canton City Fire Department, SARTA - Stark Area Regional Transit Authority's Woody the Trolley, and a big crane from Petrarca Arborcare
• Adorable, adoptable pups
• Delicious food trucks with treats for purchase
• And this year’s big update: members of our Mounted Unit will be there with their horses—a huge hit for animal-loving kiddos! 🐴

The Halloween Street Fair will be open until 7 p.m.

Then, from 5–7 p.m., dare to step inside the possibly haunted Exhibition Hall, where kids can trick-or treat AND meet a big group of their favorite superheroes (aka some of our wonderful deputies and corrections officers)!

Listed on the second image are our fellow agencies and community partners that will be joining us this year. To all of them, we say THANK YOU! Your support makes it possible for us to bring this big, joy-filled event to kids in our community.

With a continued commitment to strengthening partnerships that protect our community, Stark County Sheriff Eric Weisburn was proud to host an eight-hour “Homemade Explosives Awareness, Response, and Recognition” course today.

The training—provided to first responders from Stark County, neighboring counties, and federal partners—was coordinated and delivered by New Mexico Tech’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC).

By enhancing first responders’ knowledge of explosive characteristics, precursor materials, IED components, laboratory indicators, and scene safety procedures, this course reinforces the Sheriff’s Office’s dedication to staying ahead of emerging threats and ensuring the safety of the communities we serve.

It's Scam Tip Tuesday and today’s tip is about Voicemail Threats.

Scammers often leave voicemails saying, “There is a warrant for your arrest. Press 1 to speak to an officer.”

Do not call back. Do not press 1. Do not engage.

Warrants are served in person by law enforcement—not by phone, text, email, or through social media.

Don’t fall for the threats.
