There’s nothing quite like the community that we serve! We always look forward to talking about fire safety to children at Madison Crossing! The kids loved meeting Sparky and seeing our newest truck, Engine 1, which was added to our fleet earlier the year!

This morning at the Madison County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted for a Burn Ban to take effect immediately inside Madison County for the next 30 days.

The ban is due to drought conditions causing wildfires throughout the county. The ban is for 30 days, but can be shortened or extended based off weather conditions and the board’s approval.

Please refrain from any outdoor burning whatsoever. Law Enforcement can issue citations and other penalties if this is not followed.

Outside burning is EXTREMELY discouraged over the next couple of days. Madison County has seen several large grass, brush and woods fires over the last week with conditions only getting worse. Please keep this in mind when considering burning of any kind.

Gluckstadt Fire Department responded for mutual aid with Farmhaven Fire Dept for a brush/woods fire. Fire conditions are currently unfavorable for outdoor burning. Dry vegetation, low humidity, and windy conditions can cause a small fire to spread quickly and become difficult to control. Units spent a significant amount of time on scene of this fire.

If you choose to burn, please use EXTREME CAUTION:

• Avoid burning on windy or dry days.
• Keep a water source and tools nearby.
• Never leave a fire unattended.
• Make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area.

A fire that starts small can get out of control in a matter of minutes. Please help us prevent unnecessary brush and wildfire calls by knowing the conditions and burning responsibly.

Additional agencies on scene were Farmhaven Fire Department, Madison County Fire Services, Madison County EOC, and MS Forestry Commission.
