​Dear Plain Township Residents,

​We have some fantastic news to share regarding your daily commute and the safety of our community!

​The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has officially completed its evaluation and approved a new southbound protected/permissive left-turn phase (a green arrow) at the intersection of State Route 43 (Market Ave) and Schneider Rd.
​As your Trustee and the lead board member on this initiative, I have been pushing hard for this evaluation since November 2025. After months of persistent advocacy, data collection, and collaboration, we have secured a definitive solution to a major township bottleneck.

​🔍 Why the Change? The Data Speaks for Itself
​ODOT’s Traffic Engineer conducted a rigorous, comprehensive review of the intersection, analyzing:
​Recent turning movement counts
​Intersection layout and geometrics
​Traffic flow during peak AM, PM, and school rush hours
​A 6-year deep dive into crash data (2020-2025)

​The study confirmed that adding this dedicated left-turn arrow will significantly improve safety while keeping traffic moving smoothly without causing backups for other drivers.

​📅 When Will It Be Ready?

​Timing is everything. ODOT anticipates the signal upgrade will be fully completed and operational by August 20, 2026—just in time for the start of the 2026-2027 Plain Local Schools calendar. Our goal is to have a safer intersection ready to welcome our students, parents, and buses back to school! 🏫🚌

🌿Preserving What Matters: 47 Acres Protected for Future Generations in Stark County

I’m proud to share a meaningful milestone for our community — the permanent preservation of 47 acres of high-quality wetlands in Plain Township, now known as the Nimishillen Wetlands.

As highlighted in this recent Farm and Dairy article https://lnkd.in/gjegyfxv, this project protects critical habitat, including rare and endangered species, while ensuring this natural space remains untouched by development for generations to come.

I am honored to have led this partnership on behalf of the Plain Township Trustees, Stark County, Ohio, working alongside our outstanding partners at the Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC). 🤝🏛️

This effort reflects what’s possible when local government, conservation organizations, and community stakeholders come together with a shared vision — balancing responsible development with the preservation of the natural assets that define our region. 🌱

Projects like this don’t happen in a vacuum — they are the result of strong collaboration, strategic investment, and a commitment to long-term stewardship. 🌎

Your voice matters in the ongoing discussion regarding City of Canton Annexation and City Water Utility access. If you are concerned about how these changes affect your property rights, here are the most effective ways to communicate your feedback directly to decision-makers.

About Annexation/City Utility Access

The Stark Trumbull Area Realtors in conjunction with Ohio REALTORS and The National Association of REALTORS® are assisting ANY concerned township resident with a safe and automated method by which to voice your concerns directly with the City of Canton AND State of Ohio elected officials. The latter can enact legislation involving annexation reform while also taking action to address overreach by municipalities as has been experienced locally.

Here is the link to register your concern with both City of Canton council as well as your State elected officials. This may be the best (and only) way to let your voice be heard since some local entities don’t want to hear it while you take time to visit their assembly. Due to the snowfall expected Wednesday and Thursday, Plain Township is issuing a township-wide emergency snow parking ban.

The emergency snow ban will begin Friday, February 6, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

During this time, parking is prohibited on all Township streets, avenues, boulevards, dead-ends, and cul-de-sacs. This parking ban is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public, Plain Township Operators and to allow plow trucks to effectively clear roadways.

This annual award was established to support graduating GlenOak High School seniors who demonstrate a steadfast commitment to excellence in their school and community 🌟.

Continuing a long-standing tradition of investing in local youth 🤝, Trustee Haws will provide this scholarship to two deserving students who exemplifies leadership and dedication.

✅ Eligibility & Selection Criteria

To be considered for the award, applicants must meet the following requirements:

🎓 Academic Standing: Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
🌟 Demonstrated Excellence: Proven success in academics, athletics, leadership, and community service
🏅 Athletics: Earned at least one varsity letter at GlenOak High School
🏫 College Enrollment: Proof of acceptance to an accredited college or university
