The Children’s Haven

The Children’s Haven The Children's Haven is a 501c3 nonprofit promoting the health and happiness of children impacted by abuse and neglect.

In our society, and in societies around the world, the stewardship of a child's rights rest primarily with family- that deeply important collection of people who are a child's support system, people who will put a child's needs, potential and safety first. A family is supposed to nourish and provide for its children, guide them with culture, traditions, beliefs and values. Children are supposed to

be raised with smiles and scolds, praise and reprimands, the love of being held close and the love of being left to discover things on their own. When- for whatever reason- a family is unable to live up to those obligations, a child is left to a system. A system that is full of well- intentioned people trying their best to place children in what is hoped will be better circumstances. But it is, after all, just a system- and an overtaxed one at that. Too often a child can be placed in a different home from his brothers and sisters. Too often a single child can move to three or five or 15 foster homes in merely a matter of a year or two. Too often a child can languish for years without finding a stable home and ultimately "age out" of the system. That, at the end of the day, is why CASA exists. So a qualified responsible adult has each child's back at the most vulnerable and consequential time in that child's life. So somebody will fight for that child's rights.

We had so much fun celebrating our Chin Up Mentors with an appreciation breakfast at .ga ☀️These mentors have given so much of themselves to support the teens in our Chin Up Mentoring program and they’ve made noticeable, positive impacts in their lives. We celebrated two mentors who have been with the program since irs start, five years ago: Shawn Allen and Buster Cushing. Program Coordinator June Long, Connections Class Facilitator Katie McRee and Program Assistant Amanda Sutter recognized the years of service, shared words of thanks, and presented the volunteers with gifts. Thank you to Judge Rick Jones and April Timms for joining us and sharing their appreciation on behalf of Cherokee County Juvenile Court. Our Mentors make all the difference! These volunteers inspire us daily! ❤️❤️❤️

❤️ Thankful Thursday ❤️

We are so grateful for the generous donation from the Greater Lake Allatoona Chapter Jack and Jill. Their group donated essential items to stock our Caregivers’ Closet. These items provide support to local foster families and relative caregivers.

Thank you to for surprising us with ice cream! 🍦 We had so many kids visiting with their parents in our Wellstar Family Visitation Center during this delivery…everyone was so excited for this special treat!

Executive Director Marcie Smith and Director of Parenting and Visitation Programs Lindsay Peña attended the Annual Supervised Visitation Network Conference in New Orleans. Marcie was invited to present a workshop entitled “Elevating Community Support for our Missions” where she shared ideas and led conversation with attendees around awareness, advocacy and engagement for supervised visitation programs. They were excited to see our friends from in Savannah, Georgia at the conference, too! We are always grateful for learning opportunities that help improve outcomes in the work we do.
