🇺🇸 POST 45 — YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS COUNT! 🇺🇸

Post 45 Family, we know our members are out there serving veterans, supporting our youth, and giving back to our community every month.

Now we need to make sure those hours are COUNTED! ⏰🇺🇸

Your volunteer service helps The American Legion demonstrate the impact we make through our annual Consolidated Post Report (CPR). Every hour we record helps tell the story of Post 45's continued commitment to service.

WHAT COUNTS? More than you may think!

🇺🇸 VETERANS
VA service • Buddy Checks • Veteran transportation • Veteran support • Home visits • Claims assistance • Outreach

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 CHILDREN & YOUTH
School Awards • Scholarships • Scouting • Mentoring • Youth activities • Baseball • Oratorical • Boys State

🤝 COMMUNITY
Blood & food drives • Funeral honors • Flag retirement • Community events • Parades • Fundraisers • Holiday events

These are just some of the activities included on our new Volunteer Service Record.

📋 KEEP TRACK AS YOU GO!
Record your date, activity and hours throughout the month. It's much easier than trying to remember everything at the end of the year!

📣 BRING YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS FORM TO OUR AUGUST 20 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING!

And please don't think, “It was only an hour.”

That hour counts.

❤️ One hour helping a veteran counts.
❤️ One hour mentoring a child counts.
❤️ One hour serving our community counts.

“No act of service is too small to count. Every hour makes a difference.”

🇺🇸 WHAT DOES THE AMERICAN LEGION DO? 🇺🇸

You may recognize the American Legion emblem. You may have attended an event at our Post. You may even drive past us regularly.

But have you ever wondered… what does the American Legion actually do?

The American Legion is about far more than meetings and a building. For more than a century, Legionnaires have continued their service by supporting veterans, military families, young people, and the communities we call home.

🎖️ WE SERVE VETERANS
We advocate for veterans and help connect them with benefits, resources, assistance, and a community of fellow veterans who understand the meaning of service.

🏠 WE SUPPORT HOMELESS VETERANS RIGHT HERE AT HOME
One of the programs we are especially proud of at Post 45 is the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program and The Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Thrift Store (located at 111 Faye Drive in Canton, Georgia)

Through this program, we work to support homeless and at-risk veterans in our community and help connect them with the assistance and resources they need.

No veteran who served our country should feel forgotten by the community they served.

❤️ WE SUPPORT MILITARY & VETERAN FAMILIES
Service affects the entire family. The American Legion Family works together to support those who have served and the people who stand beside them.

🎓 WE INVEST IN OUR YOUTH
Post 45 is proud to support young people throughout Cherokee County through programs that build leadership, citizenship, patriotism, and confidence.

Our youth programs and partnerships include:

• American Legion School Essay Program
• American Legion Oratorical Program
• Boys State
• Support for Boy Scout programs throughout Cherokee County
• Support for JROTC programs within our local schools
• Scholarships and other youth initiatives

These programs help us invest in the next generation of leaders right here at home.

🇺🇸 WE PROMOTE AMERICANISM
We honor our flag, remember those who came before us, teach the importance of citizenship, and ensure the sacrifices of America's veterans are never forgotten.

🎡 WE SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY — INCLUDING THE CHEROKEE COUNTY FAIR
Each year, Post 45 proudly participates in and supports the Annual Cherokee County Fair, one of our largest community events and fundraisers of the year.

The Fair gives our members an opportunity to serve our neighbors, connect with the community, support Post programs, and continue the Legion's tradition of service beyond the uniform.

🤝 WE SERVE THROUGHOUT CHEROKEE COUNTY
Blood drives. Community events. Volunteer projects. Supporting local organizations. Recognizing first responders. Helping neighbors in need.

When there is an opportunity to serve, Legionnaires answer the call.

🏠 AND RIGHT HERE IN CANTON…

American Legion Thomas M. Brady Post 45 is proud to continue that mission right here in Cherokee County.

Our military service may have ended…

OUR SERVICE TO OTHERS DID NOT. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 NATIONAL AIRBORNE DAY — AUGUST 16 🇺🇸

Today, Thomas M. Brady American Legion Post 45 proudly recognizes National Airborne Day and honors the courageous men and women who have served in our nation's airborne forces.

On August 16, 1940, the United States Army conducted its first official parachute jump by a test platoon at Fort Benning, Georgia—helping launch a proud American military tradition that continues today.

From the battlefields of World War II to missions around the world, our Airborne forces have answered the call with courage, determination, and an unmistakable willingness to go where others cannot.

🪂 They trained to jump into the unknown.
🪂 They accepted the risk.
🪂 They accomplished the mission.

Today we recognize every paratrooper—past and present—who has earned the right to wear those Airborne wings.

To the Airborne veterans within our own Post 45 family and throughout our community, we salute you and thank you for your service.

ALL THE WAY! 🪂🇺🇸

🇺🇸 NAVAJO CODE TALKERS DAY — AUGUST 14 🇺🇸

Today, American Legion Post 45 proudly honors the Navajo Code Talkers, whose extraordinary service during World War II helped change the course of history.

Using their native Navajo language, these remarkable Marines developed and used a military code that allowed critical battlefield messages to be transmitted quickly and securely throughout the Pacific Theater. The code was never broken by the enemy.

Their contribution remained classified for years, meaning many returned home unable to speak publicly about the vital role they had played in our nation's victory.

Today, we remember their courage, ingenuity, sacrifice, and service.

We also recognize the Navajo Nation and the enduring legacy of the men who answered their country's call and used their language—once discouraged and suppressed—to help defend it.

On Navajo Code Talkers Day, we say:

Thank you. We remember. We honor your service. 🇺🇸
