Legislative Action Alert
SB 1320 Child Protection in Public Schools – aka “Don’t Say LGBTQ Expansion Bill” – will be heard in its first Senate Committee on Monday and we need you to OPPOSE it. The bill does the following:
• Expands the "Don't Say Gay" law by banning school districts from acknowledging the existence of LGBTQ people in PreK - 8th grade; such instruction must be “age appropriate” in grades 9-12;
• Adds pre-K, private, and charter schools to the law;
• Forbids the use of pronouns that align with transgender students’ or staff’s gender identity up through 12th grade;
• Strips local School Boards of the right to choose reproductive health-related course materials and preempts it to the state under the direction of political appointees;
* Makes it easier for parents or interested parties to challenge books in schools and bans these challenged books until a review is complete.
Talking Points from Equality Florida to help you craft your message.
Remember that free states do not ban books or people!
Contact the legislators below before Monday and urge them to VOTE NO on SB 1320.
Then please share this Action Alert widely.
