Another outstanding day of training on Canyon Lake.

Today, Canyon Lake Fire/EMS had the privilege of training alongside our local, state, and federal partners, strengthening the relationships and interoperability that make a difference when lives are on the line. Whether responding to a water rescue, supporting a public safety incident, or assisting our law enforcement partners, training together ensures we are prepared to respond as one team.

Our Marine 53 and water rescue assets were on the lake sharpening operational capabilities, reinforcing the skills required to protect both our residents and the thousands of visitors who enjoy Canyon Lake each weekend.

We are also honored to receive this Certificate of Appreciation from the Special Operations Detachment–Africa (SOD-A) in recognition of our department's support, professionalism, and commitment to excellence during their training mission. This recognition reflects the dedication of every member of Canyon Lake Fire/EMS and the strong partnerships we have built with agencies at every level.

The recent Hill Country flooding has caused the Canyon Reservoir to rise above its normal conservation pool into the flood pool—the portion of the reservoir designed to capture excess runoff during significant rainfall events. As those floodwaters continue moving through the system, GBRA (in coordination with USACE) is managing releases through a staged release schedule to safely return the reservoir to its normal conservation pool elevation.

Releases will be scheduled at:
250 cfs Thursday through Sunday
150 cfs Monday through Wednesday

Release rates will continue to be adjusted as hydrologic and downstream conditions change.

Visit the GBRA Basin Conditions page for the latest Canyon Reservoir release information. The Sattler streamflow gauge provides the best indication of current Canyon Dam releases. Link in first comment.

As the Canyon Reservoir returns to its normal conservation pool, GBRA encourages everyone to safely enjoy the Guadalupe River while continuing to use water wisely. Every conservation effort helps protect our water resources for future generations.

Today, Canyon Lake Fire & EMS challenged our crews with one of the most physically demanding training evolutions we perform—down firefighter rescue integrated with cardiac arrest scenarios.

We intentionally conducted this training in the current heat to help acclimate our bodies and minds to perform when conditions are at their worst. Emergencies don't wait for cooler temperatures, and neither can our preparation.

Every shift and every station participated in single-company drills, reinforcing the skills they have been building and demonstrating competency in. Training under realistic conditions develops confidence, sharpens decision-making, and ensures we are ready when our community needs us most.

At Canyon Lake Fire & EMS, we continue to train with purpose so that when seconds matter, performance is driven by preparation.

Commercial Structure Fire | Teamwork in Action

Late last night and into the early morning hours, Canyon Lake Fire/EMS crews responded to a commercial structure fire where quick action, training, and teamwork made the difference.

Firefighters were met with a secured building, requiring forcible entry to gain access and begin an aggressive interior fire attack. As conditions evolved, crews performed vertical ventilation to release heat and smoke, improving conditions for both firefighters and fire suppression efforts.

Every assignment—from engine companies to command—was executed with professionalism and precision. Incidents like these are a reminder that our firefighters train relentlessly so they are ready when our community needs them most.
