The Canyon Lake Library is truly a community library. It opened in 1980 in a 750 square foot facility. Initially started by the Canyon Lake Women's Club, the library was a completely volunteer enterprise. Volunteers ran the library and materials were donated items. The library acquired bookshelves, chairs and card tables through the donation of trading stamps (Blue Chip and S&H). The library next
became a "station" in the Riverside County Library System in 1982. A move with an expansion and becoming an official branch in the system occurred next in 1985. Two more moves/expansions occurred, bringing the library to its current 2,725 square feet, including its own children's room. Other Canyon Lake clubs and community organizations have also contributed to the success of this library through the Friends of the Library. The Canyon Lake Library relocated from inside City Hall to its new location within the same shopping center. The Grand Opening was held on Saturday, August 21, 2021. The new space is 3,394 square feet with more than 13,000 materials. The new library has a meeting room, which the public can reserve, a braille section for sight-impaired youth and public computers for all to enjoy.
