Mr. Onzo’s 6th graders built Earth in a bottle! The students learned how the 4 spheres connect by building their own mini-ecosystems: geosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere! It’s a whole working planet inside a bottle!

Let me tell you about Mr. Mac’s class today.

I walked into pure collaboration. Students were at different stations coaching each other on chemical and physical changes.

One group was doing a word sort, helping each other identify which pictures were physical and which were chemical changes.

Another group promptly pulled me aside to give me safety goggles so they could show me how vinegar and baking soda bubbles in your hand, BUT(!) not before making sure there were no cuts on my hand.

As soon as I experimented with the baking soda and vinegar, I was pulled to station 3 where I was directed to scratch a rock and then pour vinegar on it. The third group made me listen and smell the chemical reaction thoroughly explaining the process that was happening. When I was complete with my lab experiments I witnessed one student encouraging and coaching his partner to recreate the experiment.

These learning moments are what makes us so happy to be educators. All I could think was “what amazing students we have”.

Gulf Middle School is excited to announce our 1st "Create Our Spirit Shirt!" design contest for students in grades 6, 7, and 8.

We invite all student artists to design the official spirit shirt for their grade level, which will be voted on by their peers and sold online to support PBIS programs at our school.

Designs must include 5R expectations, use black and white only (no shading), be created as original work on paper or digitally, and be submitted between September 2nd and September 11th.

Submissions can be given directly to our art teacher, Ms. Schiro, or turned in at the Main Office by the deadline on Friday, September 11th.

We're so excited to see the ideas our students come up with!
