This morning Cape Elizabeth Fire-Rescue firefighters responded to a brush fire in a neighborhood area. At the height of brush fire season, please use this as a reminder to properly dispose of waste and fully extinguish camp fires after use. As always, we’re ready to respond if you need us!

Prepping for brush fire season! 🚒🌲
Last night, our team joined the Maine Forest Service for intensive wildland fire training. We spent the evening off Shore Road mastering:
âś… Portable water supply setups
âś… Drip torch operations
âś… Cutting fire lines

We finished with a training burn in the land trust field to get our skills "fire-ready" for the spring. It’s a perfect time for this refresher.

A big thanks to the Maine Forest Service for the collaboration!

National Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week!

The Portland Regional Communications Center (PRCC) handles all police, fire and EMS emergency and non-emergency calls as well as dispatching services for the communities in Cape Elizabeth, South Portland, and Portland. The PRCC receives approximately 60,000 911 calls each year, nearly 10% of the 911 calls made statewide.

We would like to recognize and say "Thank You" to all the men and women of the profession, including our very own incredibly talented telecommunicators at the PRCC. These highly trained individuals are some of the best in the business as they possess a unique skillset that requires focus, multitasking, decision making abilities, and judgement skills.

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to keeping us safe! Portland Regional Communications Center - Maine

Adopt-A-Hydrant

A huge THANK YOU to those residents who have already shoveled out their hydrant after this weekend’s snow storm!

Have you ever seen firefighters shoveling the fire hydrant near your home? After every winter storm, Cape Elizabeth Firefighters will hand shovel ALL ~400 fire hydrants in town. Why? In an emergency, every second counts! Proactively clearing fire hydrants will ensure quick access during an emergency. The Adopt-A-Hydrant program encourages residents to "adopt" the fire hydrant near their house by clearing a path from snow and ice after winter storms and trees, shrubs, and grass in the summer months. Clearing a fire hydrant near your house will save firefighters time during emergencies!

Cape Elizabeth Fire/Rescue – Winter Storm Statement

Cape Elizabeth Fire/Rescue is closely monitoring the major winter storm expected to impact our area tonight. Forecasts are calling for up to two feet of snow, along with hazardous travel conditions.

To ensure we can continue to respond quickly and safely, we will be adding additional crews tonight and staffing our Cape Cottage Station overnight.

We are asking all residents: If you do not need to travel, please stay home and off the roads. This will help keep you safe and allow our plow crews and emergency responders the room they need to do their jobs.

Thank you for your cooperation, and please stay safe.

Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency invites public input for the new Hazard Mitigation Plan through public information sessions or an online survey. This plan supports County and municipal efforts regarding infrastructure upgrades, public safety improvements, and long-term resilience projects.

We invite residents, business owners, officials, community organizations, and any interested parties across the County. We want to hear your experiences and concerns related to flood-prone or repeatedly damaged areas, winter storm challenges, coastal and erosion impacts, infrastructure and utility vulnerabilities, community preparedness, and future resilience needs. Public input builds a more effective and actionable mitigation strategy, and helps influence the prioritization of mitigation projects in the updated plan.

Public Information Sessions:
Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency is facilitating three in-person sessions, and one virtual session, for public comments regarding the hazards to address in the updated Hazard Mitigation Plan. Each session will begin with a short presentation about the mitigation planning process, trends, and vulnerabilities. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss local impacts, and suggest projects that may be a priority in their municipality.

You can register for public information sessions using the QR Code below, or at https://forms.gle/NnENFWjycLesVQ6B7
All sessions will include the same presentation, and we invite the community to participate in whichever session is most convenient:
• Wed, Jan 21 – 6 PM (In-Person at 27 Northport Drive, Portland, ME)
• Wed, Jan 28 – 6 PM (Virtual, register using link or QR code)
• Wed, Feb 4 – 6 PM (In-Person at 940 Meadow Road, Casco, ME)
• Wed, Feb 11 – 6 PM (In-Person at 4 Main St, Freeport, ME)

Online Community Survey
We also invite residents, businesses, and community partners to complete a 10-minute online survey to provide input on the most important hazards and vulnerabilities. We strongly encourage everyone—whether you are able to attend a listening session or not—to complete the survey. Your responses help ensure the plan incorporates all of the hazards and risks throughout our communities.
You can access the survey using either the QR code below, or the at https://forms.gle/f9mmywDGW1A2Uov39
