We’re expecting a busy 4th of July weekend on the beaches! 🇺🇸 Based on expected conditions, here are some quick important safety tips to know before hitting the sand and surf this weekend:

🔹Always swim in front of a lifeguard.
🔹Follow lifeguard instructions if storms approach. If beaches close due to lightning, do no enter the beach until lifeguards return to normal operations.
🔹Have everyone with you, including children, take note of which numbered beach you are at. Red signs with white numbers are posted at beach access paths. This will help in the event of an emergency.
🔹When bodysurfing, keep your arms extended in front of you.
🔹Never turn your back to the ocean.

More safety tips and beach information is posted at capemaybeachpatrol.org. We’ll see you on the beach this weekend! 😎

It was a great time this morning at the 2nd annual Beach Patrol Open House! 🛟 Hosted by the Cape May City Beach Safety Advisory Committee, members of the public were able to meet their lifeguards and interact with the Cape May Police Department and Cape May Firefighters. In addition, lifeguards conducted rescue demonstrations and kids were treated to free t-shirts and coloring books.

We send a special thanks to Madison's Bakery, Bagel Time Cafe Cape May, the Cape May Wawa, the North Cape May Dunkin', and Donut Connection for their donations of refreshments and snacks, as well as members of the committee for their work on beach safety initiatives. Most importantly, we thank Cape May lifeguards and first responders for keeping us safe each and every day. 🇺🇸
