Rooted in Time

Rooted in Time Distressed trees, boards and burls have been reclaimed; transformed into finely finished serving trays, votives, clocks, mirrors, tables and benches.

Each piece is a one of a kind About ROOTED in Time....

ROOTED in Time is derived from a belief among cultures and religions throughout the world; a belief in the circle of life. With this in mind, ROOTED in Time reclaims distressed limbs, tree trunks and burls and transforms them into one-of-kind functional art forms. Each piece reveals the wood's unique life story. A story conveyed through exqu

isite grain patterns, colors, insect activity and decomposition. Interpretation of the story is in the eye of the beholder! Cherry, oak, birch, maple and pine are the primary woods given a renewed purpose. Each piece is hand finished, requiring multiple coats of sealers, oils and hardeners. Serving trays have been top coated with several coats of a water resistant, non-toxic, food safe product. The result of my labor intensive, time consuming effort showcases the wood's intricate grain patterns, insect infestation and patina. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.

It's off season for Rooted in Time; a time of semi-dormancy. I'm looking ahead to next season. I anticipate having 8 pairs of book match red oak burl end tables supported with 3-pin hand forged legs. Several spectacular, live edge rock maple burl slabs that will serve as a centerpiece on your dining room table. The slabs will have a polished edge and cut to follow the contour of wood. The shatter proof, 3/8" will be slightly raised above the wood on brass pins. Finally, live edge framed cheese boards, mirrors and chalk boards will be in full production by the time maple syrup season arrives. The slate has been salvaged from a 1950's classroom. The live edge frames will be made from cherry that I milled 30 years ago when I first came to Maine, rock maple from Cranberry Light in Cape Neddick, and old hemlock that were once floor boards in my 1790 homestead. The framed pieces will vary in length and width. Special orders will be accepted and ready in time the maple sugar season.
