CBVFD responds to assist with the rescue of 30 people off the Cacapon River.

Just after 3:30 PM, CBVFD was alerted for a water rescue of 30 people belonging to a group of Boy Scouts that had been floating on the Cacapon River. We learned that the group had been able to get out of the water and onto the banks of the river with everyone accounted for. However, the group had been split up and was scattered across at least three different locations along the riverbank.

Three rescue boats from Romney and Springfield fire companies were used to transport everyone safely to a nearby cabin. Other boats were placed on standby in case they were needed. The group was taken to a nearby cabin, where the owners generously allowed them to get inside to warm up. All were checked by EMS, and no injuries were reported. The last units cleared around 6:30 PM.

Also assisting with the incident were Hampshire EMS, Augusta EMS, Slanesville Fire, boat teams from Mineral County, and a boat team from Frederick County, VA.

*Volunteer today!* Contact us or your local fire station to find out how.

A routine Boy Scout river trip turned into a rescue mission when floodwaters trapped 28 scouts along the Cacapon River in West Virginia Saturday.

CBVFD Responds to House Fire.

On Sunday May 17th just after 4:30 PM CBVFD was alerted for a reported house fire located on Great Plains Drive just outside of Capon Bridge. The first arriving truck from CBVFD found nearly the entire structure involved in fire and it had spread to the nearby woods. Shortly after arriving the roof and part of the first floor collapsed on the home. Firefighters were forced to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the home due to these conditions.

Two occupants of the home were able to escape, one suffered burns to the arm and the other minor lacerations to the arm.

Several fire companies from Hampshire County and Frederick County, VA responded to extinguish the fire. The last fire department units cleared just after 7:30 PM.

Hampshire County EMS along with an Ambulance from Capon Springs Fire and Rescue responded.

A special thanks to Potomac Edison for their quick response and to Gary's Excavating for the use of their equipment that aided in extinguishing the fire.
