Tomorrow, April 23, the Town of Carbonado, Town of Wilkeson and City of Buckley are participating in a large-scale lahar exercise with local school districts and several partnering agencies. Carbonado students will evacuate to their designated evacuation site on Bocci Hill. Please use caution tomorrow morning while students and staff are walking their evacuation route. Yesterday, crews responded to a rope rescue in the Wilkeson area after a person fell down a steep embankment in a remote area.

Buckley Fire reached the patient using their ATV and helped guide rescuers into the scene. EPFR Tech Rescue and Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue rope technicians set up a rope rescue system with a Stokes basket to bring the patient up the embankment. Crews from all three agencies pulled together to raise the patient to safety.

Due to the terrain and injuries, air transport was requested. An EPFR medic unit transported the patient to Wilkeson Elementary School, where Life Flight completed air transport to a local trauma center. No other injuries were reported.
