Today, our personnel and their families participated in a Wiffle Ball tournament hosted by the Cardington Community Methodist Church and the Cardington Nazarene Church. We had an absolute blast spending time together and enjoying some friendly competition. Thank you to the church’s for hosting such a great event—we’re already looking forward to the next one!

*Press Release*

At approximately 3:35 p.m. this afternoon, multiple crews from the Cardington Fire Department, along with surrounding mutual aid agencies, responded to a barn fire in the 4200 block of Township Road 134.

No civilian injuries were reported, and it is our understanding that all animals were safely evacuated from the structure without injury. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation and remains hospitalized at this time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time, and all emergency crews have cleared the scene.

The Cardington Fire Department would like to thank the members of our community for their overwhelming support during the incident. Your generosity in providing refreshments to emergency personnel on scene was greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance, including the Mount Gilead Fire Department, Elm Valley Joint Fire District , 1st Consolidated Fire District, Big Walnut Joint Fire District, Fort Morrow (Waldo) Fire District, Morrow County EMS, and the Morrow County Sheriffs Office, Mt. Gilead Ohio.

It is our understanding that a large number of cattle that evacuated the structure remain loose in the area. If you observe any of the cattle, please contact the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office so the owner can be notified. Motorists are asked to use caution while traveling through the area.

Please see the press release below regarding our mutual aid fire response earlier this evening.

Tanker 24 and Engine 20 responded with eight personnel to assist our mutual aid partners. Tanker 24 was enroute within approximately two minutes of dispatch, followed by Engine 20 within approximately six minutes of dispatch.

At approximately 11:20 AM today, crews responded to a reported field fire with possible involvement of a combine. Thanks to a quick response, the fire was rapidly contained to an area of approximately 40’ x 40’, preventing it from spreading further.

Crews remained on scene to cool down the combine involved and thoroughly checked the surrounding field for any remaining hot spots to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

We are excited to announce that we have officially taken delivery of 10 new sets of turnout gear, purchased through the $38,880 grant awarded by the State of Ohio.

This new gear is a significant investment in the safety and protection of our firefighters. Modern, properly fitting turnout gear helps ensure our members have the equipment they need to safely serve our community when called upon.

We are incredibly grateful to the State of Ohio for making this funding available and for supporting fire departments across the state. Grants like this allow us to improve our capabilities while reducing the financial burden on our local taxpayers.

Thank you for your continued support of our department. Your firefighters are committed to serving our community with the best training and equipment possible.
