Clean up starts Sunday at 7am! We still need volunteers to help pick up loads (either driving your truck/trailer or using your muscles). Lunch will be provided daily for volunteers. Please reach out to Public Works if you want to volunteer or if you need help. We do ask that if you are capable, please help load/unload your items. Thank you!

Elko County Fire Protection District is announcing that open burning will close on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, for the 2026 summer fire season until conditions improve and the Fire District reopens burning.

This closure is being implemented due to increasing fire danger, drying fuels, and seasonal wildfire conditions across the region. Even small fires can escape quickly under current and forecasted conditions.

Residents are reminded:
• Open burning closes on June 10, 2026
• Debris pile burning is included in the closure
• Previously issued burn permits are suspended during the closure
• Cooking fires and warming fires should only be used in established fire rings with adequate clearance from grass, brush, structures, and other flammable materials. A warming fire burn permit is required and must be activated using Elko County’s burn permit site https://elkocountynv.firepermits.com/
• Never burn on windy days or during Red Flag conditions

We appreciate the public’s cooperation in helping protect our communities, firefighters, and natural resources.

For questions, please contact the Elko County Fire Protection District at 775-738-9960.

Elko County Fire Chief
