🇺🇸 Know What the DSA Actually Stands For

There’s a lot of talk today about “democratic socialism.” Before we accept the label, we should take a few minutes to look at what the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) actually believes.

And we don’t have to guess. They tell us themselves.

The DSA says its goal is to move America beyond capitalism and ultimately create a “democratic socialist republic.” Their current program calls for public ownership of major corporations and essential industries, aggressive wealth taxes, publicly provided healthcare and housing, and major changes to our political system. They also advocate:

➡️ Abolishing the Electoral College
➡️ Abolishing the U.S. Senate
➡️ Replacing our two-party system with a multi-party system
➡️ Public ownership of major corporations and essential industries
➡️ Phasing out fossil fuels and creating publicly owned energy infrastructure
➡️ Abolishing ICE
➡️ Defunding the Department of War and closing overseas military bases
➡️ Reducing and ultimately abolishing what they describe as the “carceral forces” of the state, including prisons and police (DSA Program)

Now, reasonable people can disagree about individual policies.

But we should not pretend this is simply “Democrats who want better healthcare.”

This is an organization that openly describes capitalism as a system that must be replaced and advocates fundamentally restructuring America’s economic and political institutions. (Democratic Socialists of America (DSA))

That’s a very different vision for America.

As Republicans, we should be willing to debate these ideas honestly and respectfully. But we also need to know exactly what we’re voting for before we vote.

Don’t be distracted by the word “democratic.”

Read the word that comes after it.

Socialists.

And then read their own platform.

🇺🇸 Know the agenda. Know the consequences. Vote accordingly.
