FYI – PLEASE READ- MCSO SOCIAL MEDIA STATEMENT
Posts/comments on a Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) managed social media site containing any of the following inappropriate forms of content are not permitted and are subject to removal by the Sheriff of Macoupin County or his designees:
a. Profane, obscene, discriminatory, or pornographic content and/or language;
b. Content that could compromise an ongoing investigation;
c. Defamatory or personal attacks;
d. Threats to any person or organization;
e. Posts/comments in support of, or in opposition to, any political campaigns or ballot measures;
f. Solicitation of commerce, including but not limited to advertising of any business or product for Sale;
g. Conduct in violation of any local, state, or Federal Law;
h. Encouragement of Illegal activity;
i. Content that is classified as cyberbullying, cyberstalking, or harassment under local, state, or Federal Law;
j. Content that violates the “terms of service” of the social media platform;
k. Content that is libelous or slanderous or violates any other local, State, or federal Law;
Repeated or egregious violations of this policy may result is being “banned” or disabled from the ability to post further comments.
Additionally, we ask that friends/family of MCSO personnel do not “tag” personnel (linking those sheriff’s office employees to any personal social media accounts they may have) in posts, comments on the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office managed social medial sites, to protect sheriff’s office personnel’s privacy and safety.
The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) use of social media is provided as a public service to increase awareness within our communities. This page is not consistently monitored and should never be used to report crimes or inquire about ongoing cases or investigations, or to request assistance or law enforcement services.
Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reserves the right to limit or disallow comments on posts made that are considered informational only in nature as we have no legal obligation to provide an opportunity for public comments on sites managed by Macoupin County Sheriff’s office (MCSO) under the Government Speech Doctrine when engaged in government speech.
Under the Limited Public Forum Doctrine, The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office may designate certain topics that are allowed to be discussed and allow commenting with limitations. Those limitations include but are not limited to comments/posts that are off topic, or contain any other prohibited content as previously discussed in this policy.
Furthermore, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office disclaims liability for ads, links, videos, promoted content or comments accessible from any external web site or social media platform. The responsibility for external content or comments rests with the organizations or individuals providing them. Any inclusion of external content or comments does not imply endorsement by MCSO. MCSO cannot edit any posts made on its social media sites, however, MCSO reserves the right to remove or hide comments that do not adhere to this usage policy, the “terms of service” of the social media platform, or violates any civil or criminal local, state, or federal law.
