Info for the Friday Festivities

🚧 PARKING & STREET CLOSURE NOTICE 🚧

As preparations begin for 62626 Day, the Carlinville Square will begin closing to traffic at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 26.

🚨 If your vehicle is parked on the Square, it MUST be removed by 2:00 PM. 🚨

The Carlinville Police Department will begin closing streets promptly at 2:00 PM so vendors, entertainment, and event crews can safely set up for the evening celebration.

Please review the map below for street closures. Approximately three-quarters of the Square and the surrounding blocks shown on the map will be closed to traffic. The northwest corner of the Square will remain open for westbound traffic during the event.

Please help our officers by moving your vehicle before 2:00 PM and planning ahead if you’ll be traveling through downtown Friday afternoon.

We appreciate your patience as we prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. We’ll see you Friday night for 62626 Day! 🎉

CPD Officers had the honor and pleasure of running and participating in the annual Torch Run with the Illinois State Police and other law enforcement agencies from across the state today. Great cause and great people and even had the chance to make friends with some of the Special Olympians.

CHARGES FILED IN FATAL MILTON DRIVE SHOOTING

The Alton Police Department announces that John A. Hammond, 46, of Alton, has been charged in connection with the June 1, 2026, shooting in the 3400 block of Milton Drive.

The deceased victim has been identified as Mariah R. Fearn, 32, of Alton. A male victim sustained serious injuries and continues to recover.

Officers quickly developed information that led to Hammond’s arrest in Carlinville, Illinois, within hours of the incident.

“This case reflects the dedication and professionalism of our officers and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to identify, locate, and apprehend the suspect within hours of this tragic incident,” said Chief Jarrett Ford.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mariah’s family and loved ones during this difficult time, as well as with the injured victim as he continues his recovery.

The Alton Police Department thanks the Illinois State Police, Madison County Coroner’s Office, Carlinville Police Department, Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office, Metro East SWAT Team, and the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance throughout this investigation.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Macoupin/Montgomery Counties Crime Stoppers and the Carlinville Police Department are asking for information to help nab the GRINCH(S) who stole almost $3,000 worth of tools and materials from a Non-profit group in Carlinville.

Sometime on Christmas Eve someone broke into the building where THE SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE (Carlinville) build and store their beds that they deliver to those in need, ensuring that NO kid sleeps on the floor.
