Justice has been served today. An attentive and conscientious jury has found Cheyeene Clifford guilty of the following charges:
Wanton Murder (2 counts)
Assault 1st Degree (2 counts)
Tampering with a witness,
DUI, etc
This verdict brings to a close a long and grueling process. More importantly, it is my hope that the families of these victims can find some sense of closure; while nothing can erase the tragedy or take away the unthinkable pain, perhaps now, the families and surviving victims can begin to heal, and find some peace.
This conviction is the result of tireless perseverance—-a meticulous investigation and a masterful, highly effective prosecution. I personally wish to express my gratitude to Michael Laws, Commonwealth Attorney, his Assistant Commonwealth Attorney, James Stone, his staff, my dedicated deputies and staff, all involved law enforcement, first responders, forensic examiners, witnesses, the court system and the jury for working so diligently.
As your Nicholas County Sheriff, serving you—-protecting and promoting the safety and security of this community, is my highest priority. When a criminal offense is committed, be assured that my deputies, my staff and I will continue to perform at optimal levels in order to serve you effectively.
