Since fall 2023, Central Pennsylvania Conservancy has worked with landowners Jim, Jay, Joseph, and James Mowery to permanently protect their familyโs 261-acre forested property near Newville, PA. Now their family's land will be protected in perpetuity.
In addition to its ecological value, the property contains a unique recreational resource: a half-mile segment of the Tuscarora Trail with a stone bench and scenic overlook reminiscent of the popular Flat Rock Trail at Colonel Denning State Park.

During the Summer of 2025, the Conservancy acquired a 91-acre conservation easement from long-time donors Joshua and Amanda Parrish. Ardent supporters of local land preservation and stewardship, the couple were quick to contact the Conservancy regarding the preservation opportunity once they discovered the valuable natural and historic qualities of the site.
Located in a globally important bird area and crossed by two well-maintained but unprotected hiking trails, completion of this project is an excellent example of the synergy between recreation and conservation interests in achieving positive land preservation outcomes.
