Carlisle Barracks commands high standards, physical readiness, and an unyielding commitment to the Warrior Ethos.

More than 850 warriors, Gold Star families, Soldiers, Veterans, and Community Members, stepped onto the rugged ground of Fort Indiantown Gap on Saturday, September 19, 2026 for the 15th Annual March for the Fallen. This wasn’t a race. It wasn’t a competition. It was a living memorial, a deliberate act of remembrance for those who gave their last full measure of devotion.

Carlisle Barracks’ Command Team, the Garrison Commander, Command Sergeant Major, HHD Commander, and First Sergeant, stood shoulder to shoulder with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, embracing the miles, the weight, and the hardship that symbolize the cost of freedom.

The Garrison Commander, Command Sergeant Major, First Sergeant completed the full 28 mile route, a test of endurance, resilience, and lethality that reflects the Warrior Ethos: I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade.

The HHD Commander and his young son completed the 5K run/walk, proving that honoring the fallen is a family commitment, passed from one generation to the next.

Major General John R. Pippy, the 55th Adjutant General of Pennsylvania and commander of nearly 18,000 Soldiers and Airmen of the Pennsylvania National Guard, kicked off the 15th Annual March for the Fallen, setting the tone for a day grounded in honor, grit, and remembrance. The terrain demanded respect, asphalt roads, steep climbs, and rugged mountain trails across the training grounds of Fort Indiantown Gap. The course climbed from 500 feet to more than 1,239 feet along Second Mountain of the Appalachian Range. The elevation alone reminded every participant that honoring the fallen requires effort worthy of their sacrifice.

March for the Fallen is more than an event. It is a promise. A promise that this Army remembers its heroes. A promise that we honor our Gold Star families. A promise that we will continue building resilient, disciplined, lethal Soldiers who understand the weight of service.

Freedom is not free, and we, the living, carry the responsibility forward.

The Carlisle Barracks Garrison Command Team led from the front, joining the Soldiers of the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment to execute a rigorous Combat Water Survival Training event from Sept. 8 through Sept. 10, 2026. Under the leadership of the Garrison Command Team, this demanding training directly reinforced Carlisle Barracks' commitment to elite physical standards, raw warrior toughness, and immediate warfighting readiness.

As the home of the Army University and the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks is foundational to preparing our military's strategic leaders and support elements for the harsh realities of combat.

CWST is not a familiarization exercise. It is an uncompromising, high-standard evaluation requiring Soldiers to execute controlled deep-water entries in full combat gear, master load-bearing water movement with rucksacks, and perform critical gear recovery under intense physical stress. By enforcing these Special Forces-inspired survival benchmarks, the Garrison ensured every individual Soldier, regardless of role, remains a lethal combat asset.

A formidable deterrent relies on disciplined, highly trained Soldiers ready to fight and win in any environment. Incorporating Special Forces-aligned waterborne fundamentals and emphasizing calm-water proficiency, equipment control, buddy teamwork, and adaptive problem-solving under physical stress, this event demonstrated the core of our Warrior Ethos.

The HHD Soldiers proved the SOF ethos that "calm is contagious" in high-stress environments and lived the warrior imperative to never quit. The U.S. Army reestablishes deterrence by training our conventional forces to meet the highest benchmarks, preparing every Soldier for the complex, unforgiving demands of the modern battlefield.
