Today is all about Matt Hughes! PennyandMatt Hughes

“I am Matt Hughes, a lifelong resident of Nicholas County. I am married to Penny Baker Hughes and we have four children that we raised in Nicholas County.
We have three grandchildren that we spoil every chance we get.

I have been Magistrate of District 2 for 11+ years. In those 11 years, the fiscal court has had several major accomplishments. We have been able to get the Nursing Home back up and running under new management. We have also welcomed Wednt's Wildlife, Harrison Harvesting and some other small businesses to our community.

I am a member of the Bourbon-Nicholas Economic Development Board and working diligently to get industry into Nicholas County at the Industrial Park on Carpenter Pike. Ground leveling is currently being completed, with a 12 inch water line from Millersburg to the Industrial Park to be installed this summer. A new Ambulance (EMS) Station is on the horizon as well.

If re-elected, I will continue to work diligently on these projects as well as any new ones that arise along with my normal magistrate duties. Thank you for your continued support.”

Today’s Candidate: Ross Haney
Ross Haney, 5th District Magistrate

“My name is Ross Haney, and I have had the pleasure of serving as the Magistrate of our beautiful 5th District since January 2023. I grew up in Nicholas County and graduated from NCHS in 2015. I then attended Morehead State University, and today I serve as the elementary school music teacher and assistant band director for our local schools.

I am running for re-election because I have helped put Nicholas County on the right track. In the past term, your Nicholas County Fiscal Court has brought in millions of dollars in state and federal grants/appropriations; created over 100 new jobs in our community; invested in significant road work throughout the 5th District; and given back to the youth of our community through the thousands of educational scholarship dollars given over the past few years.

In my magistrate seat, I have had the pleasure of serving on the Nicholas County Senior Citizens Board, and have received over 160 magistrate training hours. I established the Nicholas County 5th District Magistrate’s Scholarship, which I give each year to a NCHS Senior to continue their education past high school.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I humbly ask for your vote for my re-election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Let’s keep Nicholas County moving forward!”
