Line-of-Duty Funeral Procession for PSP Trooper Michael E. Pahira
Wednesday, July 8, 2026 β€” Schuylkill County, PA

Trooper Michael E. Pahira, a 20-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police assigned to the Frackville barracks, was killed in the line of duty on July 1, 2026, while conducting a roadside commercial vehicle inspection on Interstate 81 South in Cass Township. Trooper Pahira is the 106th member of the Pennsylvania State Police to die in the line of duty.

Pennsylvania State Police have requested full road closure support for two separate funeral processions on Wednesday, July 8th β€” roughly 5 hours apart. You can help with one, the other, or both.

0700 β€” Road closure begins
0715 β€” Procession departs Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home
0730 β€” Arrives North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School

How to Help:
Email and/or TEXT Schuylkill County Fire Police Commissioner John Bushar at [email protected] / 570-449-0728 and/or Brian Fenerty at [email protected] / 717-510-8599. Please DO NOT call. Provide your contact information, how many fire police are available to include their county, name, badge number, email address, and cell phone. Also provide what resources will be provided (traffic unit, POV, cones, barricades, etc.).

This is a chance to show a fallen trooper's family β€” and every trooper still on the road β€” that Pennsylvania's fire service shows up. Please share this with any fire police or traffic control personnel who can assist.

This afternoon our county Special Police Emergency Response Team leadership was dispatched along with an automatic limited access highway traffic team of 4 traffic units. In all we had more than 4 traffic units plus all 3 Team 800 chiefs and 1 of our captains from our leadership team.

As big of an operation as this was during rush hour everything was as exceptionally well as we could expect in any situation like this.

Thank you to Fire Police units from Silver Spring Community Fire Co., New Kingstown Fire Co., Hampden Township Volunteer FD, East Pennsboro Fire Police, Upper Allen Fire Department, and Shiremanstown Fire Department.

Job well done everyone!

It is with profound sadness that I write this.

Please keep our brothers and sisters at Walnuttown Fire and Rescue in Fleetwood PA in your prayers today as the navigate the tragic loss of their Chiefs.

I have reached out to the company offering any support they might need from a Fire Police perspective either now or in the future. If they seek any assistance, I will be let everyone know what is needed. I do not need to ask this, but please be prepared to help in whatever capacity they may need.
