INCIDENT – STRUCTURE FIRE: On 3/16/26 at approximately 13:46 Carlock Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire located on Sunset Lake Rd in Carlock, IL.

The first arriving unit reported a working fire and requested a 2nd Alarm, bringing in mutual aid departments from Normal FD, Danvers FD, Hudson FD and Congerville FD. All occupants and pets had exited the structure prior to fire department arrival.

Suppression crews worked extremely hard to bring this stubborn fire under control but faced uncontrollable obstacles with high winds and freezing temperatures.

There were no injuries reported.

The Carlock Fire Protection District would like to send a sincere THANK YOU to our mutual aid departments. It was definitely a challenging day, and we truly appreciate your assistance.

🚩🚩 Red Flag Warning today🚩🚩

NO burning - please! 10 am - 8 pm
High wind gusts and dry conditions will cause fires to spread rapidly.

02/18/2026

An elevated fire danger exists on Wednesday across portions of central Illinois, mainly near and north of I-72. This is due to the dead and dormant grass, wind gusts of 25-30 mph, and afternoon humidity levels as low as 15%. The greatest risk is from about Macomb to Pontiac northward, where the stronger wind gusts will be slower to diminish in the afternoon. Avoid open burning, and be careful with anything that may trigger sparks.

The volunteer fire service is facing an ever growing challenge. Call volumes are rising, training requirements are increasing, and finding volunteers is becoming more difficult.

Recently, Carlock has been responding more frequently to calls in the Town of Normal. While we are always proud to help our neighbors, this puts an increased strain on our volunteer members and pulls our trucks away from the citizens and taxpayers in Carlock.

The Town of Normal Firefighters (L2442) are currently urging their Town Council not to move a vital fire station out of the center of town. Their call volume has surged, and without proper staffing and station placement, the entire region feels the impact.

Because of this, CFPD has sent a formal letter to the Normal Town Council expressing our concerns and advocating for a solution that keeps all of our communities safe.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
We need our residents to speak up. A properly resourced Normal Fire Department ensures that Carlock’s trucks and volunteers stay available for our community.
Please contact the Normal Town Council today. Ask them to prioritize public safety by keeping the central fire station in its current location and increase staffing to meet the rising demand.

And as always, join your local volunteer fire department. Message us today to learn how to become a member!

Share this post to help us spread the word and protect our local resources!
