When the tones go off mid day for a wildland fire, our volunteers step away from jobs and come running to help our career staff.

As a reminder make sure hot spots are out cold in your burn piles to avoid any potential for rekindling as the weather warms up!

UPDATE: the structure has entered free burn after the completion of training

LIVE FIRE TRAINING HAPPENING NOW - NO PUBLIC VIEWING due to limited space and firefighter safety

Carlton Fire District is conducting a live fire training exercise at a donated structure located at 7485 NW Meadowlake Road. Training operations will begin with the first evolution being lit at approximately 5:00 PM.

Our volunteers dedicate countless hours throughout the year attending weekly trainings and building the foundational skills needed to respond when emergencies happen. Live fire training opportunities like this provide a rare chance to put that groundwork into action through realistic, controlled fire evolutions.

Due to the limited accessibility of the property and roadway, this training will not be open to the public for viewing. We kindly ask community members to avoid stopping vehicles or walking along Meadowlake Road and NW Bakeman Lane during the training to help prevent traffic congestion and allow emergency personnel to operate safely.

Residents in the surrounding area may notice smoke conditions throughout the evening and are encouraged to keep windows closed if smoke becomes a nuisance.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the property owner for donating the structure and taking the necessary steps to prepare the home for this important training opportunity. Community support like this plays a vital role in helping our firefighters prepare to serve Carlton Fire District safely and effectively.

Our team trains for countless hours to make sure we are ready when it matters most. Joint wildland training drills like last week’s exercise give firefighters from multiple agencies the opportunity to bring the bigger picture together, strengthening our communication, coordination, and teamwork across the fireline.

Whether you are a seasoned veteran or brand new to wildland deployments, there is always something to learn and take away from every training opportunity especially if our own Scott Bernards is manning the BBQ grill. Fire season is just around the corner, and Carlton Fire stands ready at home and prepared to lend a hand wherever we're needed!

Holiday weekends are always a roll of the dice when it comes to volunteer staffing, as many of our members are spending valuable time with family and friends. Yesterday, when the pager went off, Station 7 volunteers answered the call without hesitation. CFD sent two fully staffed water tenders to assist McMinnville Fire District with mutual aid coverage during the structure fire. Thank you to our dedicated volunteers for stepping away from your holiday plans to support our neighboring agencies when needed!

The Carlton Fire District supports compliance with all applicable state laws and regulations regarding Highway 47. The district did explore alternatives to move any water related activities away from Highway 47, including relocating them to Roosevelt Street or the fire district parking lot. The district will continue participating in the Noise Parade and hopes to work collaboratively with community partners to pursue any appropriate permits or approved options for future years in an effort to preserve the tradition for both communities in a safe and lawful manner.

Joint Statement Regarding Revised Senior Parade Protocols and State Highway Compliance

The City Governments of Yamhill and Carlton, local Law Enforcement, Fire Districts, the Yamhill-Carlton School District, and the YCHS Grad Night Committee are issuing this update regarding the safety protocols for the upcoming Senior Parade.

In recent years, an "extreme water fight" tradition has emerged that has escalated beyond its original intent, resulting in property damage, police complaints regarding criminal mischief, and liability concerns. To address these safety concerns while maintaining the spirit of the day, the following protocols are now in effect:
• City of Carlton: Will host a "Noise Parade" only. We encourage the community to celebrate with cheers and music; however, no water use of any kind is permitted within Carlton city limits.
• City of Yamhill: Water use and water balloons will be permitted exclusively within a designated zone on Olive Street, between the intersections of West Main and West 3rd Street.
Yamhill Water Zone Expectations: Within this designated zone, people and property must be treated with respect. Do not target unwilling participants or bystanders. High-powered or industrial water delivery systems remain prohibited. Additionally, please be a good citizen and help clean up all balloon debris immediately following the parade.

Important Notice Regarding State Highways (ODOT)

Based on direct input from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), it is vital to note that Highway 47 and Highway 240 are state highways. All activity on these roadways is subject to State laws, Local laws, and City ordinances.
Per ODOT regulations:
• Throwing projectiles of any kind and/or spraying water onto the highway—or while on the highway at moving vehicles and pedestrians—is strictly prohibited.
• Interfering with vehicle movement in any manner is a violation of state law.
• ODOT has advised that the throwing, propelling, and disbursement of water at vehicles or persons onto or from state highways is prohibited.

This decision was made collectively by all involved agencies to protect the safety of our students, residents, and motorists. We look forward to a loud, proud, and lawful celebration for the class.

Continuing our May Wildland Fire Awareness Month tips, preparation starts at home, start this weekend!

When people think about wildfire danger, they often picture large flames moving through the forest. But in reality, the biggest threat to homes is often wind-driven embers that can travel far ahead of the main fire and ignite materials around your property.

That’s why the first five feet surrounding your home matters so much. Dry leaves, pine needles, bark mulch, stacked firewood, patio furniture, and other combustible items can all become ignition points when embers land nearby. Keeping this area clean and well maintained can dramatically reduce the risk of your home catching fire.

Creating defensible space and improving wildfire resilience doesn’t happen all at once. Simple projects completed over time can make a major difference for your home, your family, and our community.

Carlton Fire District encourages residents to take small steps now before fire season arrives.

Small steps build legendary protection.

Living in the rural-urban interface means wildfire preparedness starts right at home. For residents within Carlton Fire District, the first five feet around your home can be one of the most important defense zones you have. Keeping that space clear can make a major difference when wildfire threatens our community.

Leaves, pine needles, bark dust, stacked firewood, and dry vegetation can ignite quickly from blowing embers. Even common outdoor items like welcome mats, patio furniture, planters, and garbage bins can become fuel if placed too close to your home.

By creating a clean, non-combustible space around your house, you help reduce the chance of wildfire taking hold and improve firefighter access and safety during an emergency response.

Wildfire resilience starts with simple steps taken before fire season arrives. Together, we can help protect our homes, families, and the Carlton community.

Small steps build legendary protection.

Today, we proudly honor our CFD firefighters who give back to our community in countless ways. They answer the call for help, organize community events, and dedicate hundreds of hours towards weekly training so they’re ready when it matters most. Often, that means stepping away from their own families, who selflessly support them in giving their time and heart to serve others.

Carlton Fire District would not exist without the heartbeat of our organization, our dedicated staff and volunteer firefighters. We are also grateful for our neighboring fire districts, many of whom are volunteer organizations as well as they stand beside us to ensure our communities receive the highest level of care. Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and for being the very best part of Carlton Fire. ❤️🚒

First recognized in 2007, January 27th is designated as Fire Service Appreciation Day in Oregon. Today, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office takes a moment to join with the rest of the state in saying "𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪!" to our colleagues in the fire services.

We appreciate all the amazing first responders, from frontline heroes like firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics, to the unsung support staff like prevention specialists, inspectors, and office teams. Paid or volunteer, trainees or veterans with 30+ years of experience, we know that when they show up, the outcome is always better.

Whether responding to medical emergencies, house fires, auto accidents, or wildfires, fire service members are always ready to help. We’re proud to stand beside them every day.
