Fun Sun Hats

What a fun Saturday at The Cottages of Carmel! Caregiver, Uri Resendiz did a Arts & Crafts class on "Making Sun Hats".

The Club Room was packed with ladies waiting to make their own special hat! There was a large variety of flowers and ribbon to adorn the hats. All the ladies were having so much fun picking out certain flowers and the ribbon to match the color of their flowers.

Everyone's hat looked amazing!

Family Night at The Cottages of Carmel

Family Night for the month of August for The Cottages of Carmel was a Hawaiian Luau! We had such a huge turnout for this event!
The Cottages Bixby Lounge, Patio and Dining Room was decorated with Hawaiian flair! It was beautiful warm evening and everyone was dressed for the occasion. Everyone received an Hawaiian lei when entering the Bixby Lounge.
Hawaiian Ukulele music by Keith Brown. Between songs Keith spoke on the traditions of the Hawaiian Islands. Everyone enjoyed the music! Then it was time for the Hawaiian dinner. To start off the meal was Egg Drop Soup and Tropical Mango Vinaigrette Salad. The main dish was Hawaiian BBQ Pork Sliders with Hawaiian Spam Fried Rice and Stir Fried Vegetables. Last but not least dessert, which was Pineapple Lemon Crunch Cake.
A great time was held by all!

The Cottages of Carmel started a new program called "Breaking Bread". The program is where staff members spend time with residents during lunch,dinner or breakfast. They can put their own creative spin on how or when, or even put a special theme to it. That's what Miguel Morales, Concierge at The Cottages decided to do! A cultural breakfast surprise with our residents. Miguel brought in delicious Conchas and Croissants for our residents for his "Breaking Bread" All the residents enjoyed their morning breakfast with Miguel. Especially residents Jane and Susie. Everyone is looking forward to the next one!

"Bee At A Picnic" Family Night

"Bee At A Picnic" was a huge success! The Cottage of Carmel Bixby Patio was decorated with red white checkered tablecloths and flower streamers. Our main dining room was also decorated for a delicious dinner. The main entrée was Honey Walnut Shrimp to go with our bee theme.
We had beekeeper Tim Knauf to speak on bee's. Tim has two apiaries. One in Carmel Valley & the other in Marina. Tim also brought an observation hive with a queen bee inside. Family & residents were fascinated by how big the queen bee is compared to the other bee's. Tim explained that all the bee's have a certain jobs.
Everyone had lots of great questions for Tim. After the lecture everyone went into the dining room for special entrée of Honey Walnut Shrimp. Everyone was given a jar of honey to take home. A great evening was held by all!

The Cottages of Carmel Garden Party/Dog Fashion Show

The Cottages of Carmel Garden Party/Dog Fashion Show was a huge success! It was a beautiful warm day in Carmel.
Everyone was anticipating a great event. Our ladies were dressed in summer dresses and hats just for the occasion. Our men were also dressed for the occasion.
Chef Abel and Dining Staff set up elaborate tables filled with tiers of Petite Cucumber Sandwiches, Bruschetta and Mango Meyer Lemon Margaritas! We must not forget Strawberry Shortcake for dessert!
While everyone was enjoying good food and drink while the Dog Fashion Show was happening. The best show was resident Jane Sullivan's paw buddy, Callahan. Second place was Etta Hadden paw buddy Enzo and Maria Weidman with Tiberius. Executive Director, Kellie Shearer brought her dogs, Miley and Malachi.
All dogs went home with doggie gift bags and prizes!
The Cottages of Carmel also raffled off a beautiful garden bag filled with garden tools and essentials for your garden and a Wellness Summer Gift Basket.
Everyone had a extraordinary time and looking forward to the next Garden Party & Dog Fashion Show.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day at The Cottages of Carmel was a day to remember for our mom's.
The day started by giving long stem roses and Mother's Day cards out to our mom's and ladies. Then a delicious Mother's Day buffet lunch. Herb crusted Prime Rib or Baked Salmon with Meyer Lemon Gremolata. Last but not least dessert was Chocolate Marble Mousse Cake.
The culinary team went all out!
After a delicious lunch Pianist, Leah and Bass Guitarist, Mel entertained mom's, family and friends. Fun was held by all!

Family Appreciation Baseball Tailgate Party.

On April 15th The Cottages of Carmel held a Family Appreciation Baseball Tailgate Get Together. Families and friends joined their loved ones for a nice evening of barbecued hambugers, hot dogs, potato salad, onion rings and watermelon. Everything was delicious. Staff and residents joined in the fun by wearing their favorite baseball team jersey or hat.
