Today is National Medal of Honor Day.

There are acts of courage that words struggle to contain. The men and women who have received the Medal of Honor performed those acts. They made decisions in the most extreme circumstances imaginable, put the lives of others ahead of their own, and in many cases paid the ultimate price for it.

Since the Civil War, just over 3,500 service members have received this nation's highest military honor. That number is small by design. The threshold is not bravery alone. It is bravery of a kind that stands apart from everything else.

We pause today not simply to observe a date on the calendar, but to genuinely reflect on what these recipients gave and what they represent. Their courage set a standard for selfless service that continues to inspire every generation that follows.

To the recipients of the Medal of Honor, and to the families who carry their memory, this department stands in your honor today.

St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate, and we want everyone to make it home safely tonight. Historically, about 1 in 3 fatal crashes on this date involve an impaired driver. That's not a statistic we want anyone to become part of.

A few things to keep in mind tonight:
Sort out your ride home early. Don't wait until the end of the night to figure it out.
Watch your surroundings. There will be a lot of people out walking tonight, especially near bars and celebration areas.
Stick with your group. Make sure everyone has a safe way home before you split up.
See something, say something. If you spot someone driving impaired, call it in to local authorities.

Have a fun and safe St. Patrick's Day. We'll be out there watching over you.

Daylight Saving Time begins today, March 8. Research consistently shows a 6% spike in fatal traffic accidents during the week immediately following the spring time change - a direct result of sleep disruption affecting millions of drivers simultaneously.

For law enforcement professionals, that statistic isn't abstract. It shows up in the calls you run, the scenes you work, and the reports you write. As you head into the week, exercise heightened caution on the roads. The clocks moved one hour, but the risks moved considerably more.

Happy Birthday to the United States Navy Reserve.

Since its establishment, the Navy Reserve has answered the call in every major conflict — with reservists making up a staggering 84% of the entire Navy force at the end of World War II. Today, nearly 60,000 Selected Reserve personnel carry that legacy forward, maintaining mission-ready status while serving their home communities in uniform.

Many of our own members know this commitment firsthand - balancing shifts, court dates, and community duties with federal deployments across the globe. That's not one job. That's a calling times two.

To every law enforcement professional who also wears the Navy Reserve anchor - we see you, we honor you, and we thank you.

Good morning Carmel by the Sea!

Does your home and/or business have a security camera? We as a police department are asking for your assistance in helping us pinpoint those security cameras within our city, whether it be a business or a residence. This allows our police officers to solve crimes faster and more effectively when investigating an incident.

This is completely voluntary and all the information will be kept secure and confidential. This does not give the police department access to your live feed.

If this is something you want to participate in, click the link below and fill out the form, it only takes 5 minutes! You can also scan the QR code below on our flyer. Happy Monday and have a wonderful week! ☀️☀️

Presidents’ Day is more than a long weekend - it’s a reminder that leadership, sacrifice, and service help define our nation.

Did you know? This was the first federal holiday created to honor an individual’s birth date - originally celebrating George Washington on February 22 before moving to the third Monday in February.

Today we take a moment to reflect on those ideals of leadership and responsibility that continue to guide communities across the country.

Wishing everyone a safe Presidents’ Day from all of us.

This Valentine’s Day, we’re thinking about the families who share their hearts with those who serve.

Behind every badge is someone who answers late night calls, missed holidays, and long shifts - and behind them is a partner, spouse, family member, or friend who stands strong right alongside them.

Did you know there are more than 750,000 sworn law enforcement professionals serving communities across the United States? That’s hundreds of thousands of families sharing in the sacrifices that service requires.

Today we celebrate not only those who protect and serve, but also the people who wait safely at home and keep the heart of this profession strong.

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us.

On World Cancer Day, we honor the strength of those facing the toughest fight of their lives. Cancer does not discriminate; it affects our members, our families, and our neighbors without warning.

To those in our ranks currently navigating treatment and recovery: We are holding the line for you. We stand united in support of your journey and remain inspired by your daily courage. We are stronger together.

🌟 MLK Day: A Day On, Not a Day Off 🌟

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to service - and in 1994, Congress officially designated MLK Day as a national day of service, making it the only federal holiday with that designation.

💬 "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

For law enforcement, service isn't just a holiday - it's the job. Today and every day, we honor Dr. King's legacy by striving to protect and serve all members of our communities.

How are you honoring Dr. King's legacy today? 👇

🔵 Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 🔵

24,412.

That's the number of names inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. - dating back to 1786.

In 2025 alone, 111 more heroes made the ultimate sacrifice. On average, each left behind two children.

Today we honor those who run toward danger so the rest of us can run from it. Thank you to the men and women who answer the call - every shift, every day.
