Yesterday, our department responded to two serious motor vehicle accidents.

At approximately 12:08 PM, we were dispatched to a reported single vehicle rollover with entrapment on the Taconic State Parkway S/B near the exit ramp to Route 301. Upon the arrival of our crews, two occupants remained entrapped inside the vehicle. Both victims were quickly extricated and transported to the hospital by EMS.

Later that evening, at approximately 9:11 PM, we were dispatched to another motor vehicle accident involving a single vehicle that struck a tree on Farmers Mills Road in the area of Miller Hill Road. Three occupants were transported to the hospital by EMS.

We would like to remind everyone that recent wet weather has made roadways extremely slick. Please slow down, allow extra stopping distance, avoid distractions, and drive safely.

This evening, our members provided standby coverage alongside the Lake Carmel Fire Dept and Carmel Fire Dept. NY during the Town of Kent’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

As we approach the Fourth of July, we encourage all residents to celebrate safely:
🇺🇸 Leave fireworks to the professionals.
🚒 Keep a safe distance from fireworks displays.
🔥 Never leave grills, fire pits, or campfires unattended.
💧 Keep a hose or bucket of water nearby when using permitted outdoor flames.
☎️ If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

**ELEVATED FIRE RISK**

Late Monday morning into early Monday evening, the combination of drying fine fuels, southwest wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread for the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City and northern and western portions of Long Island.

This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials.

As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.
