A Message from the Carmel Clay School Board
Dear CCS Community,
As was shared at our most recent board meeting, the Carmel Clay School Board of Trustees is in the process of reviewing and drafting updated administrative guidelines and policies following the event at Smoky Row Elementary School. These will be reviewed by the board for first reading at its April 28th meeting.
We, as a board, condemn all forms of hate and intolerance, including antisemitism and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safe space for our students and educators through continuing education, ongoing professional development, and clear guidelines and policies that include consequences and the immediate reporting of situations to the appropriate CCS staff member.
We will continue to partner with Jewish Community Relations Council and other community organizations in order to address their concerns, provide resources, and discuss educational opportunities for students and staff.
As a reminder, existing board policy states that anyone who believes that a student or staff member has possibly been or is the target or victim of discrimination or harassment is encouraged to immediately report the situation to an appropriate staff member such as a teacher, counselor or administrator. Any CCS employee who suspects discrimination or harassment must report the behavior to his/her immediate supervisor, who in turn will report the situation to the appropriate district coordinator. We also encourage parents, students, and our community to use the "StopIt" app to anonymously report concerns, which will be immediately screened by building administration and Carmel Police.
Sincerely,
The Carmel Clay Schools Board of Trustees
