Fellow citizens of the Republic,

On this glorious 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation, the Carmel Republican Committee wishes everyone a happy, healthy, and safe Independence Day.

The great American experiment was not born because its creators were geniuses with perfect foresight, nor because they built a system that would run itself. It was forged by ordinary Americans: statesmen and farmers, lawyers and tradesmen, entrepreneurs and doers, thinkers and patriots. When Benjamin Franklin stepped out of the Constitutional Convention and was asked what kind of government had been created, he answered: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

That challenge was not just for his time. It was spoken to every generation, including ours. It is our duty as citizens to keep this experiment alive by continuously improving ourselves, adapting to the realities around us, seeking to understand one another, celebrating the unique contributions of every individual, and remaining open to ideas that strengthen our Union.

Here in Carmel, the Carmel Republican Committee strives to answer that call every day. We welcome anyone who wants to help make America, New York State, Putnam County, and our town the greatest they can be. It's with a sad heart that we send out condolences to the Binns family for the passing of Mr. William Binns. Bill was a long-time Republican committee member and supporter who was known to bring a smile to everyones face; be it through bright and cheerful conversations, answering phone calls with song, or sharing his poetry. We will miss his company, but are thankful for the years of good cheer and dedication to our community and the Carmel Republican Committee.
