ARREST MADE

Officers responded to reports of a carjacking at a gas station after a suspect allegedly entered an occupied vehicle while the owner was airing up a tire. The vehicle owner and his adult daughter who was still in the passenger seat, attempted to prevent the suspect from driving away with the car. The female victim was able to safely exit the vehicle, but the male victim sustained serious injuries as the suspect drove away. The stolen vehicle was then driven recklessly through the area before violently crashing into an occupied residence.

The suspect fled on foot following the crash but was quickly located by responding officers and taken into custody. Investigators also recovered suspected drug paraphernalia, and a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation indicated the suspect was impaired at the time of the incident.

The adult male was arrested on preliminary charges including:

- Robbery: by Putting Someone in Fear and Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (SBI)
- Robbery: Resulting in SBI
- Criminal Recklessness: Committed Aggressive Driving Resulting in SBI
- Criminal Recklessness: Committed with a Deadly Weapon
- OWI
- OWI Causing SBI
- Auto Theft: Theft of Entire Vehicle and has prior conviction
- Battery: Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident with SBI
- Possession of Paraphernalia
- Driving While Suspended
- Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle
- Public Intoxication: Endangers Life of Another Person

Final charging decisions will be made by the Hamilton County Prosecutors Office.

We would like to sincerely thank the witnesses who immediately called 911 and provided critical information, as well as the officers, and firefighters whose quick actions and teamwork helped bring this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.

🏃‍♂️ Officer Hatton is taking on a “Last Man Standing” ultra race on July 25 in Lake Placid, New York… and he’s doing it for a great cause.

Every hour, runners must complete a 4.2-mile loop until only one runner remains.

Officer Hatton is using this challenge to raise money for the Carmel FOP Lodge 185 Indiana, which supports local families, scholarships, officer assistance programs, child safety initiatives, and more throughout our community.

Recently, Carmel Police and Carmel Fire Department attended Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), continuing our commitment to serving the community with compassion, professionalism, and understanding.

This specialized training focuses on communication, de-escalation, and responding to individuals experiencing mental health crises or other behavioral health challenges. By training together, first responders strengthen their ability to work as a team during some of the community’s most difficult moments.

Thank you to the Fishers Police Department for hosting this valuable training opportunity!

Officer Hoag and Officer Hall recently had the chance to meet Gil, a 15-year-old from Boulder, Colorado, and let’s just say… this kid is already making a huge impact.

Not only did Gil generously pay for the officers’ meals, but he also shared the story behind his nonprofit organization, “I Love LEOs,” which he started to support and encourage law enforcement officers across the country.

At just 15 years old, Gil is already showing the kind of kindness, leadership, and heart that makes a difference in communities everywhere. It was an honor for our officers to meet such an inspiring young man and hear about the positive work he’s doing.

Memorial Day means more than a long weekend.

Today, we remember the people who left home to serve our country and never got the chance to come back to those who loved them. 🇺🇸

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Please take a moment today to remember them and honor the lives they gave for all of us.
